Pre Season Friendly 17/07/01
Brid Town 2-0 Scarborough
Bridlington Town sent a warning to the rest of the Northern Counties East League with a deserved victory over Vauxhall Conference side Scarborough in Town's first pre season friendly. Scarborough brought a full first team squad to Queensgate and pressured the home side with penetrating attacks but Billy Heath's side were more than a match for their opponents. Town, who have been put through punishing training in recent weeks surprised their opponents with their fitness and it was difficult for neutrals to determine who was the more senior side. Town took an 11th minute lead when Jamie Richards pounced in the box from a Martin Thacker corner to swivel and hit a shot in off the bar past Wood. Town's Matty Edeson looked menacing at times and twice went close in the first half. At the other end Town keeper Mike Heath had to be allert on a couple of occasions but dealt competently with any threat. Town closed down their North Yorkshire rivals with tenacious play and increased their lead on 34 minutes. Martin Thacker broke from his own half, drew the defence and fed Rchards who made no mistake to make it 2-0 with his second goal of the night. Scarborough's Ellender and Rennison were tested frequently as Boro showed they are not yet back to match fitness. Town were pushed back in the latter stages of the 1st half but Rich Harrison, Wayne Lewis and Paul Foot worked constantly to restrict the visitors chances. In the second half Scarborough introduced fresh legs as Manager Neil Thompson analised his attacking options. Boro twice went close but Town's replacement keeper Craig Wardale reacted with reflex saves when called upon. Former Town player, Jamie Burt, gave Town's defence a stern test in the second half with a display of skill and pace but could not manage to bring the visitors back into the game. Shaun Baker, Jamie Cass and Martin Thacker looked outstanding in midfield and forced their opponents into mistakes when put under pressure. Town brought on Barstow, Ingram, Parker, Williamson and Davies who kept Scarborough's defence on the back foot and shut down their opponents with pace and determination. Town were unlucky to have a third goal ruled out when Richards fed Mark Barras who hit a shot against the bar. Edeson, looking a yard faster than last year, lashed in the rebound only to be ruled offside. Town showed enough to suggest that the Scarborough squad will be put through their paces before the season starts if they are to challenge this year. Scarborough Manager Neil Thompson, may have been surprised to be worked to the end but Billy Heath must be delighted with the way his Town squad have responded after working hard in recent weeks. Town continue their programme with a friendly against Frickley Athletic at Queensgate on Saturday 3.00pm. If it is anything like this one it will certainly be worth watching.

21/07/01 - Friendly - Bridlington Town 1 - 1 Frickley
Brid Town again showed they can be a force to be reckoned with in this friendly with Unibond League side Frickley despite being without Captain Lee Harper and influential midfielder Shaun Baker. Although the visitors looked sharp from the off the home side refused to be over run and in the end could have taken another victory. Town's Mark Barrass came closest to taking the lead, after a competetive first half hour, when his volley from a Jamie Richards pass was turned over by Wilkinson after 37 minutes. Town went behind on 40 minutes when Jamie Cass conceded a free kick on the edge of the box. Price's free kick deflected off Cass leaving Heath Stranded as the ball was diverted into the opposite corner for a fortunate goal for the visitors. Both sides made changes in the second half but it was Town who created the better openings. Edeson, Richards and Ingram went close as Town came to terms with the pace of the game before Heath made changes. On the hour Town drew level. Mark Davies gambled, intercepted and waltzed round a defender and the keeper before nonchalently stroking the ball hom. Town continued to have the better of the chances though substitute keeper Craig Wardale had to react quickly on a couple of occasions. Town's Ingram made some good runs from deep but couldn't take advantage of some good positions.Frickley played some good football at times but were thwarted by the tenacity of Town's Jamie Cass and Martin Thacker in Midfield and some outstanding defending by Wayne Lewis, Richard Harrison and Paul Foot. Town nearly gave a goal away midway through the second half when a Lewis back pass was intercepted. Wardale did well though and Foot covered to clear of the line. Town almost secured the win in the last few minutes but Barrass volley, after a ball over the top, flew inches wide. Darren Parker showed some good touches and challenged solidly to give Hetah further encouragement. Another good performance by Billy Heaths outfit who face Alfreton Town at Queensgate next Saturday 3.00pm. Town team M.Heath (13.Wardale 53), Barrass (18.Marris 83), Chadwick(15.Parker 55), Foot, Lewis, R.Harrison (17.Collins 81), Ingram, Cass, Richards(14.Davies 49) Edeson( 16. P.Harrison 73), Thacker. 28/07/01 - Bridlington Town 1-0 Alfreton Town
Bridlington Town continued their unbeaten pre season run, following the victory over Scarborough and the draw with Frickley with a 1-0 win over Derbyshire side Alfreton Town. Alfreton were first to go close but Mike Heath saved well from a Schofield header. Town’s Steve Dixon was then spoken to after two late tackles caught opponents. The home side began to make inroads and Matty Edeson saw a shot fly wide and Martin Thacker had a great 35 yard effort tipped away by Varney for a corner. From Thacker’s corner Town player manager Billy Heath got enough on the ball to deflect a header off a defender and past the keeper to give the Seasiders the lead after 17 minutes 1-0 to Town. Soon after it was almost 2-0 when Jamie Cass put Edeson clear who lobbed the keeper perfectly only for the ball to bounce off the hard surface and agonisingly over the bar. Alfreton came more into the game in the latter stages of the half but Town defended well. Only a booking for Dixon late in the opening period blotted Town’s copy book. Town brought on Wardale in goal and Parker at wing back for the second half and were first to create a chance. Edeson danced to the by-line and cut the ball back only for Shaun Baker to slice his shot wide. Davies and Rush were also introduced as Town searched for a second. Edeson saw a free kick tipped over the bar and Rush headed wide from a Thacker corner. Ingram, Collins and Hirscher were also introduced as Town continued to match their opponents. Town had the ball in the net a second time after Mark Barrass played a great 1-2 to square for Mark Davies to tap in only to find a flag raised for off side. Alfreton had a great chance at the other end but Wildgoose’s powerful shot was met by a good save from Wardale. Ingram fired over in the closing minutes as Town held out to record another good result in the build up to the season.

Town recorded a comfortable win over Central Midlands League side Askern Welfare. Matty Edeson gave Town the lead just before the break with a left foot drive from 25 yards. Martin Thacher made it 2-0 on the hour. Jamie Richards added a third and an own goal by a defender from a Mark Barrass cross completed the scoring 6 minutes from time.

Friendly - Bottesford 1 - 2 Brid Town 7/08/01
Bridlington Town continued their pre season games with a win at Central Midlands side Bottesford. A close first half saw neither side create any clear cut chances and the game remained goalless. In the second half Bottesford took a 49th minute lead when Gavin turned in a free kick from Shrimpton. Town upped the pace and controlled the second half going close on numerous occasions. Town missed a chance to draw level when Cass was brought down in the box only for Richards to blast the spot kick against the bar. The Seasiders were soon on level terms though when Davies pounced on a Baker through ball to slide the ball past the keeper on 75 minutes. Town dominated for the remainder of the game and forced the pace to pen the home side back. Town had another penalty appeal turned down after a challenge on Davies but took the lead in the 87th minute. Richards did well down the left to pick out Marris at the far post and he thundered the ball past the keeper from 10 yards. Despite a close scoreline Town were well in control in the second half and could have won by a bigger margin.

Bridlington Town 4-1 Westella & Willerby Town completed their pre-season campaign with a comfortable win against Westella & Willerby of the Humber Premier League. Matty Edeson opened the scoring on 17 minutes with a follow up to a blocked Phil Harrison shot. Town went 2 - 0 up on 33 minutes. Harrison was halted in the box, Shaun Baker picked up the loose ball to drive through and past the keeper. On 41 minutes Town made it 3 - 0 when Sean Rush headed in a Martin Thacker corner. In the second half both Shaun Baker and Phil Harrison had chances to extend the lead but the Westella keeper blocked bravely on both occasions. Some casual defending by Town allowed Westella to pull a goal back on the hour but the three goal advantage was restored six minutes later. Matty Edeson put Phil Harrison clear, he rounded a defender and slotted the ball under the keeper to make it 4 - 1. Town almost added a fifth in the final minute when Steve Dixons volley was tipped onto the bar by the Westella Keeper. Town begin their league campaign in the NCEL next Saturday when they entertain Nottinghamshire side Gedling Town at Queensgate (3.00pm )

18th August 2001 Bridlington Town 4 Gedling Town 1
Bridlington put in a comprehensive performance in this first league game of the season against Nottinghamshire side Gedling Town. Bridlington had the early pressure but Phil Harrison was twice judged offside. As Bridlington continued to dominate Gedling conceded free kicks. On 17 minutes Andy Taylor was brought down 25 yards out. A well rehearsed set piece saw Matty Edeson stroke the ball into the top corner to give Bridlington the lead. The lead was increased four minutes later when Lee Harper headed home from a Martin Thacker corner. Gedling fought their way back into the game and gained a penalty, when Andy Taylor felled A.Frawley in the box. Frawley tucked away the spot kick on 26 minutes to make it 2 - 1. As the game headed towards half time, one or two heated challenges saw referee Stead speak to a few players to calm things. HT 2 - 1
Bridlington Town increased their lead early in the second half. A surging move saw Mark Barrass roll the ball into the path of Martin Thacker who thundered the ball home from just outside the box.3 - 1 Bridlington went further in front on 61 minutes. Jamie Cass played a delightful through ball for Phill Harrison. He chipped the ball, and although Gedling keeper Stanhope got a hand to the ball he could not prevent it going into the net. 4 - 1 Gedling had a chance to pull one back with a free kick on the edge of the box. A fierce strike from Gedling Substitute Hollis-Smith cannoned off the bar with five minutes left on the watch. A convincing start to the season for Bridlington to boost confidence for next weeks away trip to Hatfield.

HATFIELD MAIN 2 BRIDLINGTON TOWN 1
Town began well, having the benefit of most of the possession, and gaining an early free kick to the left of the Hatfield box which came to nothing. Several late challenges and niggles led to the referee booking players from both sides. Matty Edeson forced Hatfield keeper Murray into a good save with a shot from 20 yards as Town continued to have the better of the game. A pass from Andy Taylor again saw an Edeson shot tipped round by Murray. A rare excursion into the Town half by Hatfield saw a punt into the box which was only half headed back to Town Keeper Mike Heath. As Heath scrambled for the ball he brought Jason Miller of Hatfield and the referee awarded HATFIELD A PENALTY, which was duly despatched by Nigel Downing to give Hatfield the lead on 33 mins. Town still had the better of the possession but could not find the final ball and were perhaps guilty of a little lethargy and lack of urgency. HT 1 - 0
After the break It was still Bridlington who had the best of the ball as they pushed forward in search of reward. It was Hatfield, though, who benefited from space at the back when a clearance was headed back and Hatfield's Phipps raced in to round Town keeper Heath and slot home on 59 minutes. Hatfield then had a spell of possession and Batchelor forced a save out of Heath with a stinging shot tipped over the bar. Town again pushed forward, Edeson hitting just wide from a free kick, a Harper volley going over the bar and a succession of corners went unrewarded. Bridlington gained a consolation goal in the dying minutes when Jamie Cass latched onto the ball, rounded the Hatfield keeper and scored. Town were unable to grab a draw in stoppage time despite their efforts. A disappointing result which saw Hatfield get their first win over Town in recent years. Bridlington will have to perform better next week if they are to progress in the FA Cup when they face Harrogate Railway (away)

Town created the first chance in this FA Cup tie when Edeson's cross was headed over by Thacker, and soon after a dangerous Harrogate back pass forced Harrogate keeper to clear off the line. Paul Wilson cut in from the left and fed Edeson who was fouled. Harrogate then pushed forward bringing a good save from M.Heath at the feet of Harrogates Hart. As Town attacked again Edeson was fouled once more but the free kick was hit just wide of the target. A great run from defence by Sean Baker saw good play come from Wilson and Phil Harrison to earn a corner for Town which was cleared by Harrogate. As the game possession alternated it was Harrogate who gained a corner which came to nothing. With half an hour gone Town won a corner. As the ball broke from defence Dave Ingram hit a powerful shot which unfortunately for Town was straight at the Harrogate keeper. Harrogate had marginally the better of the remainder, twice forcing Heath into saves and and also an Ames cross which went out for a throw at the far side.Jones for Harrogate saw his shot saved then Town rallied and reached the Harrogate byline but were disappointed when the referee blew the whistle to end the half
HT 0 - 0
Though Town had the better of the early second half exchanges it was Harrogate who gained the majority of possession. A powerful run from Harrogates Hart was saved by Heath. Martin Thacker had a curling shot saved but Harrogate pushed up from the clearance and took the lead when Danny Ames shot on the turn from 10 yards out. Town tried to reply but often the decisive ball went astray. An Edeson free kick following a foul on Baker was hit over the bar. Town introduced substitutes Mark Barrass and Jamie Richards for Ingram and Thacker as Town chased an equaliser, but still Harrogate pushed forward testing Heath on several occasions. With five minutes remaining Baker screwed his shot wide from a Wilson free kick. In stoppage time with Town throwing everything forward Harrogate broke free, Wright passed to Wrigley and scored to make it 2 - 0 to Harrogate. FT 2 - 0

Bridlington Town 4 Mickleover Sports 0
Attendance - 50
Mickleover felt the backlash of Town's FA Cup exit last week with a confident display by Town. Manager Billy Heath made several changes, which saw the return to the side of Lee Harper, Andy Taylor and Paul Foot. After an early attack by Mickleover a determined Bridlington Town soon had Mickleover on the back foot, despite playing into a strong wind. Ingram fed Harrison but his shot was just over. Mickleover had another break and forced a corner but it was soon Bridlington again in the ascendancy. This time Taylor fed Harrison who shot wide. Harrison got his reward a minute later when playing a neat one-two he raced through to slot the ball under Mickleover keeper Wilson to give Town the lead on 14 minutes. As Town continued to press Edeson was impeded and gained a corner from the free kick but Mickleover defended well to clear for another corner. An overhead effort from the ever dangerous Harrison was tipped round the post by Wilson in the Mickleover goal. Mickleover then attacked with McGovern breaking into the Town box, only to be felled by Baker for a penalty on 28 minutes. McGovern took the penalty himself but his weak effort was easily saved by Mike Heath. Town dominated the last fifteen minutes of the half, restricting Mickleover to long range through balls which came to nothing whilst at the other end Harrison continued to make a nuisance of himself, having a shot blocked and gaining further corners. Paul Foot also had a shot on the turn blocked. HT 1 - 0
Town made the perfect start to the second half. After and early Harrison chance, Taylor was fouled on the right wing. Thacker's free kick was only half cleared by Mickleover and as the ball was headed back into the danger area Paul Foot anticipated well and timed his run to perfection to beat the Mickleover defence and hit home from inside the six yard box. 48minutes 2 - 0. Town's next opportunity came just five minutes later when Baker was fouled. Edeson made the best of his free kick despite the wall not being fully ten yards away, but Wilson easily collected. Baker, Taylor and Harrison again combined well and on the hour, Edeson in the clear failed to connect properly and side footed the ball to Mickleover keeper Wilson. Edeson was soon in action again, beating three defenders to shoot from outside the box but straight at Wilson. Mickleover had a spell of possession but Town countered by replacing Edeson with Richards. Richards soon made his presence felt and his cross was almost turned in By Paul Wilson of Town but Mickleover keeper Wilson saved at his feet. Baker, Richards and Taylor then combined well down the right before the ball was fed into Harrison in the box. Harrison juggled the ball skilfully and hammered home from ten yards. 3 - 0 on 78 minutes. Just three minutes later Paul Wilson broke superbly down the left and his pinpoint cross gave Phil Harrison the easiest of tap ins to complete his hattrick. 4 - 0 on 81 minutes. Substitute Mark Barrass worked well down the right with Harrison and Barrass shot was saved at full stretch by Wilson. Richards had a long shot saved on 89 minutes as Town tried for a fifth. In the last minute of normal time Mickleover crossed from the left to the far post where Hudson was unmarked but he glanced his header wide. Bridlington Town 3 Pontefract Collieries 1 Pontefract shocked Town early in the game when M.Smith fired home from just inside the box after only 8 minutes to score Pontefracts first goal of the season. Town piled on the pressure forcing several corners and Wayne Lewis forced a tremendous save from Pontefract keeper Newton. Matty Edeson saw a 25 yard shot tipped over but Town gained reward on 17 minutes when Edeson and Thacker linked well to find Harrison. His shot on the turn deceived the keeper and Town levelled. 1 - 1. From the restart Pontefract had a chance when Firth fed Hull but his shot hit the side netting. Town surged up the other end through Andy Taylor who played the ball neatly to Ingram and in turn Edeson who saw his shot deflected off the line after 20 mins. On the half hour Cass won the ball on the right, Taylor charged down the pitch, crossed for Wilson to knock the ball back into the box where Edeson fired just wide under challenge from a Pontefract defender. Taylor continued to cause problems for the Pontefract defence with his runs down the right and on 40 mins he unleashed a shot across the Pontefract box which just evaded the far post. Town continued to have the best of the possession in the remainder of the half but could not find the final touch. HT 1 - 1.
Andy Taylor had the first chance for Bridlington in the opening minutes of the second half but fired wide. Town took the lead after 58 minutes. Phil Harrison made a jinking run down the right but was felled just outside the box by Batley. Edeson took the free kick which was headed home by Lee Harper. Edeson, Taylor, Ingram and Harrison neatly interchanged but Harrisons shot was blocked and rebounded kindly into Keeper Newton's hands. Town's dominance restricted Pontefract to rare excursions up field though they didn't trouble keeper Mike Heath. Pontefract's defence were pressured frequently but held out despite Town's efforts. With three minutes remaining Taylor crossed for Harrison and should have scored but fired straight at the keeper. Pontefract's Firth twice had shooting chances but missed the target. In stoppage time an Edeson free kick evaded the Pontefract defence and Dave Ingram nipped in to head home for Towns3rd goal.

This was one of those games when the team who dominated was at the wrong end of the scoreline. Almost a dream start for Town when Edeson hit the byline and crossed for Cass. Cass's left foot shot was blocked but from the rebound Cass saw his right foot shot canon off the bar on three minutes. Town continued to press and pegged Rossington into their own half. Edeson had several chances for Town and Thacker saw a long shot go wide. On a rare excursion upfield Rossington gained a free kick. As the ball was kicked into the Town box player manager Billy Heath could only gasp in amazement as he was judged to have fouled a Rossington player and the referee awarded a penalty. Town keeper Mike Heath got his hands to the ball but Bradley's penalty kick crossed the line to give Rossington the lead on 30 minutes. With five minutes of the half remaining Phil Harrison fed Dave Ingram and Ingrams long range volley was acrobatically saved by Rossington keeper Allen. Soon after, Allen handled the ball outside his penalty area and Town were awarded a free kick. Thacker took the kick quickly with Allen still back tracking but his shot went just wide. Town continued to press and Craig Suddaby saw his effort just wide as the half closed. HT 1 - 0
From the off in the second half it was Town in possession. Wayne Lewis hit a 35yd shot just wide and Matty Edeson forced another outstanding save from Allen. With Town pushing forward a long ball out of the Rossington defence found a player in space on the left. The ball was moved inside where Rob Debenham hit a left foot shot from the edge of the box into the top corner. 60mins 2 - 0. Town brought on Jamie Richards for Harrison and he immediately found space to shoot from 20 yards but he was foiled by Allen. With Town laying virtual siege to the Rossington defence a 25yrd shot from Ingram hit the base of the post. Richards saw another effort thwarted by the Rossington keeper and Cass saw his shot deflected wide. Into the last 15 mins and again Allen produced an outstanding save. Rossington had a rare break but Walker flashed his shot across the face of the Town goal area. As time ran out Edeson tried to salvage something for Town but luck wasn't on his side. Northern Counties East League Division One Worsbrough Bridge 1 - 0 Bridlington Town
Att: 85est
Bridlington's travel woes continued with another away defeat. Town started the brighter and showed intent when after just seven minutes a 20yd Martin Thacker shot rattled the Worsbrough bar. Worsborough gained possession and despite a timely Lee Harper tackle the ball fell kindly for Karl Kent to cut inside and fire under Mike Heath to give Worsborough the lead on nine minutes. As Town pressed forwards, Worsborough defended well but were aided by a lack of Town creativity. Perhaps Town were guilty of playing too much football and should have opted for a more direct approach. Martin Thacker had space 25yards out but fired wide under no pressure. Worsborough attacked again and looked likely to create a shooting chance but two great tackles by Billy Heath halted them in their tracks. Town surged forwards again and gained a free kick from which Matty Edeson forced a great save from Worsborough keeper Wilson with a curling effort. Town ended the half pressuring the Worsborough goal, two shots from Edeson and one from Phil Harrison failed to find the net. HT 1 - 0 In the second half Town were again the first to create a chance but Lee Harper volleyed over after a Thacker effort had been blocked. Then Lewis sliced wide after Harrison got to the byline. With little reward coming Town's way, substitute and new signing Mark Logan was brought on for Jamie Richards (68mins) The game deteriorated somewhat as players of both sides questioned decisions and consequently entered the referees book. Town keeper Mike Heath was lucky to get away with a moment of indecision when shut down by Worsboroughs Taylor. The same player had a shooting chance in the six yard box but Heath managed to palm it away. Town had a number of chances to snatch a point as the game went into stoppage time. Worsborough clung on though Town ended with ten men after player manager Billy Heath was dismissed for an off the ball incident.

Bridlington Town 3 Rossington Main 0
Bridlington Town gained revenge for their Vase defeat two weeks ago with a gritty display at Queensgate, despite playing with only ten men for the whole of the second half. After an early lapse of concentration when Heath was nearly caught out, Town pressurised their visitors with Edeson twice having shooting chances after good work with Harrison. On twelve minutes Phil Harrison received the ball at this feet, dummied one way but turned the other, and buried the ball in the back of the net. 1 - 0. Town continued to press and Martin Thacker went close after a good run from midfield but saw his 20yd shot go just wide on 23minutes. Rossington came into the game a little more and a cross from Rossington's Bradley screwed off the foot of Lee Harper but Mike Heath collected. A moment of indecision between Billy Heath and Wayne Lewis almost let in Henderson but the danger was cleared. A Dave Ingram cross from the right found the head of Edeson but he couldn't get enough power and Rossington keeper Allen gathered. On 41 minutes referee Storrie dismissed Mat Edeson from the field for an alleged elbowing incident despite Edeson's protests. In the dying seconds of the half Andy Taylor hit a fierce shot that was well saved by Allen. HT 1 - 0
Ten man Town pushed from the off in the second half and grabbed a second goal. Lee Baker carried the ball into the box and Phill Harrison drove the ball into the back of the net to make it 2 - 0 on 53 minutes. Harrisons trickery was causing problems for Rossington as he looked for his third goal. At the other end a corner was headed wide by Dawn and on 64 mins Rossington's Bramley fired wide when unmarked in the six yard box but Town pushed back. A great run by Andy Taylor saw him curl the ball round the back of the Rossington defence but Phil Harrison could only hit the side netting. At this point Andy Taylor seemed to be involved in everything, giving Town outlets down the right. Town introduced Jamie Richards in place of a tired Phil Harrison for the last five minutes and his first contribution almost put Taylor in. Taylor got his reward for an outstanding display on 87 minutes with a sensational strike into the top corner from 25 yards to make it 3 - 0.

Hall Road Rangers 2 - 1 Bridlington Town
Att: 80 est
Bridlington Town deserved at least a point from this derby encounter after dominating long periods of the 2nd half but instead once again failed to register any points away from home. Whilst this was always going to be a passionate game the referee Mr Fox began flashing the yellow card as early as the 4th minute and by the end of the game it looked as if he had reached double figures for cautions in what was not a dirty game. Town had early chances through Mark Barrass and Martin Thacker and Dave Ingram forced Hall Road keeper Burley into a good save to earn a corner. Phil Harrison and Barrass combined well to feed Taylor who also saw his shot saved. With a quarter of the match gone Hall Road broke up front and gained a free kick. Dave Bannigan headed home from the kick to give Hall Road the lead on 22 mins. Soon after a short back pass left debutant Bridlington keeper Phil Dobson stranded but he got back to clear, conceding a disputed corner. With the half hour approaching Town poured forward and Phil Harrison was fouled. Matty edeson's free kick was parried by Burley but Town captain Lee Harper followed up to net from close range to level matters on 30 mins. 1 - 1 With just four minutes of the half remaining Hall Road broke free again and what looked like an outstanding tackle from Taylor was penalised. Paul Palmer stepped upt o score from just outside the box from the free kick on 41mins 2 - 1. Town pressed back but efforts from Edeson and Barrass were just off target. HT
Town were in the ascendancy from the start of the 2nd half and had the ball in the back of the net on 49 mins only for the referee to rule it out for a foul on Burley. Hall Road were restricted to rare breaks as Harrison and Lee Baker both had efforts cleared. Jamie Richards came off the subs bench to replace Edeson and was soon in the action seeing a shot parried by Burley and Baker saw another effort save by Burley after a deflection. A Phil Harrison cross to Taylor was turned out for a corner and Harper beat Burley but saw his effort go over the bar. The remaining 20 mins of the game carried on in much the same phase with Town failing to find the clinical finish, and Hall Road held on for the three points.

Bridlington Town 4 Yorkshire Amateur 2
Att: 65
Town took the game by the scruff of the neck from the off and were soon reward for all their early pressure when after just 6 minutes Steve Dixon headed in from a Martin Thacker corner. The Bridlington onslaught brought further reward on 10 minutes when debutant James Leech showed great pace and beat the keeper inside the box. Just two minutes later Steve Dixon headed home another Thacker corner to make it 3 - 0 on 12 mins. As Town pressed forward Yorkshire Amateur gained a loose ball and beat the offside e trap with M.Barnes pulling one back for the 'Ammers on 18 mins 3 - 1. 'Ammers began to find their feet a little more and had more of the ball but were restricted to long shots. Town had a couple more great efforts, a free kick from Thacker went inches wide a Lee Baker header was just over but the score stayed at 3 - 1 at half time.
Yorkshire Amateur began the second half with more purpose but Town pressed back and had the ball in the back of the net again after 55 mins only for it to be ruled out for an earlier foul. Within three minutes Town had added to their total when James Leech took advantage of a defensive mix up to gather and slot home for his second on 58 mins 4 - 1. Leech was full of running and battled well to win a corner which saw a goalmouth scramble cleared by 'Ammers with Town players unable to find the final touch. On 70 minutes a cross from the right by Yorkshire Amateur found Maynard and although it appeared Kelly in the Town goal was fouled Maynard tucked the ball away to make it 4 - 2. A long free kick punted into the box saw 'Ammers Jowett with a free header but Kelly gathered easily. As the game wore on Town were guilty of some loose play at the back, giving Yorkshire Amateur more confidence though Town were still pushing for a fifth goal. Time ran out with Town the winners 4 - 2

A fairly even opening fifteen minutes saw both sides testing each others relevant
strengths. Town had the first clear chance on 17 minutes when new signing James
Leech raced through but Lincoln keeper Bradshaw saved bravely at his feet. After
more Town pressure Lincoln broke down the left through Good but his effort was
well wide. The majority of the play was through Town in the Lincoln half, with
James Leech and Phil Harrison working hard without reward. A good turn inside
the box by Martin Thacker gave him room to shoot across the face of the goal
and Andy Taylor just failed to connect on 35 minutes. After a loose pass from
Town Lincoln's Smith gathered but blazed the ball well over the bar on the stroke
of half time. HT 0 - 0
Lincoln broke the deadlock on the 49th minute. After pressure a first shot was
blocked but D.Smith fired home from just inside the box despite appeals for
offside from the Town players. On 56 minutes Phill Harrison had just the Lincoln
keeper to beat but his attempted lob hit the keeper. A Martin Thacker free kick
from the right was headed wide. Town gained another free kick on the hour but
Thacker's shot was charged down. Craig Burdick tried a long range shot which
was comfortably saved. Edeson, on to replace Leech, had a shot deflected for
a corner and soon after gained another corner when Harrison had crossed from
the left but again Lincoln cleared. On 73 minutes an Edeson free kick after
Harrison was fouled was spilled by the Lincoln keeper but Harper was not quite
quick enough to capitalise. After Town had missed out with another corner, Lincoln
broke and their striker was fouled by Richard Harrison to concede a penalty.
Whittle netted to make it 0 - 2 on 84 mins. On 90 minutes Wayne Lewis picked
up the ball in midfield but his thirty yard shot just dipped over the bar. In
stoppage time a Taylor cross was half cleared but Edeson blazed over the bar.

Winterton Rangers 1 - 0 Bridlington Town
Att: 60est.
Once again Bridlington Town came away empty handed from an away game when they
should have had at least a point.
Town had the better of the early exchanges and went close on five minutes through
Ingram. Several chances were created through Thacker, Harper and Burdick but
the best effort came on twenty minutes when an Ingram cross was volleyed by
Leech but Herrick in the Winterton goal blocked well. With Town keeper Kelly
hardly involved the Town forwards were unlucky in not finding the clinical ball
when needed. HT 0 - 0
The second half continued in a similar vein to the first with Bridlington having
the greater amount of chances but play was halted on several occasions with
the match balls going out of the ground. Winterton gained a little more possession
but rarely troubled the Town defence. As the game wore on it looked as if a
draw would be the outcome, but as the game entered stoppage time Leech broke
clear for Town and won a challenge with Winterton keeper Herrick but could do
nothing as his chip hit the post and was cleared by grateful Winterton defenders.
Winterton played a long ball up field and with Town's players appealing for
offside Marsh lobbed Kelly to score and give Winterton the win five minutes
into stoppage time.

Selby Town 0-2 Bridlington Town
Burdick At The Double
Bridlington Town cruised into the quarter finals of the Presidents Cup with a sparkling win at high flying Selby.
Town took an early lead when Craig Burdick lashed home a left footdrive from 10 yards after the ball broke kindly for him in the 6th minute.
Selby had a chance to draw level in the 17th minute but Tomlinson fired harmlessly wide.
Jamie Richards should have made it 2-0 to Town on 26 minutes after a Thacker ball picked him out perfectly but his shot was narrowly off target. Another chance fell to Richards after Harper's header picked him out but the keeper smothered the ball. Gaughan went close for Selby but it was Town who dominated the half and were well worth their half time lead.
Half Time Selby 0-1 Bridlington Town
In the second half Town tore Selby apart with some tremendous attacking moves. Debutant Richard Britten almost increased the lead and was at the heart of a number of moves. Mark Barrass and Dave Ingram broke at pace and created chance after chance for Burdick and Richards though their finishing was a little rushed at times. Selby had few chances to get back into the game as Taylor, Harper, Jackson and Harrison defended superbly. Town keeper Gavin Kelly only had one save of note to make but did that competently. Town replaced Britten in the 61st minute with Lewis as Britten tired after his first game for some weeks but he showed enough to indicate his signing will be worthwhile.
Town extended their lead in the 78th minute. A Martin Thacker freekick from the right was met by a superb header from Craig Burdick to give Selby Keeper Craig Code no chance to make it Selby 0 Brid Town 2.
In the final minutes Richards and Lewis came close again for The Seasiders while Selby were restricted to wayward shots from outside the area.
Overall a fantastic display by Town who looked far more comfortable with this formation.

GOAL FEAST AT QUEENSGATE
Bridlington Town put in another outstanding performance in this NCEL Div 1 fixture.
After a quiet start the first opening came in the tenth minute. A Richard Britten
header fell kindly for Craig Burdick who fired wide from just outside the area.
A minute later Britten released Jamie Richards down the right who's cross was
deflected for a corner which came to nothing. Jamie Richards put Craig Burdick
through and his directed shot glanced agonisingly wide of the Parkgate post.
On 25 mins Jamie Richards hit a shot on the turn that went just over the bar.
A minute later an intricate move between Barrass and Thacker down the left fed
Burdick but his shot went over the bar. Craig Burdick then broke into the right
of the box to find Dave Ingram. Ingram's header was cleared off the line for
a corner. A Martin Thacker free kick was expertly buried in the back of the
net on the half hour but the referee ruled it out as the awarded freekick was
indirect. On 37 minutes Town took the lead when Burdick raced through onto the
ball and slotted the ball into the back of the net for his third goal in two
games. Jamie Richards beat the offside trap on 41 mins to go one on one with
Parkgate keeper Butler but Butler stood his ground to save. Richards and Thacker
combined to feed Burdick who lost his footing as he shot and fired over.Town
gained a free kick 25 yards out for hand ball, this time a direct free kick,
and Thacker made no mistake curling his strike over the wall and into the corner
of the net to make it 2 - 0 on 45 minutes.
HT 2 - 0
Town attacked from the off in the second half. Jamie Richards forcing Parkgate
keeper Butler to tip round for a corner. Mark Barrass had a surging run down
the left but his shot from the edge of the box was blocked by Parkgate. Andy
Taylor made a charge down the right, Craig Burdick drew the defence as Taylor
fed Jamie Richards who danced around the keeper but saw his shot headed off
the line for a corner by Oldfield. Town increased their lead from the corner
when Captain Lee Harper headed home powerfully on 53 mins. Just two minutes
later, following a foul on Jamie Richards, Martin Thacker's free kick was fumbled
by Parkgate keeper Butler nad Harper followed up to grab his second goal - 55
mins 4 - 0. As Town surged forwards again, Andy Taylor crossed and Craig Burdick
deftly back heeled the ball into the net to make it 5 - 0 on the hour. As Town
went in search of further goals Taylor was again the provider in the 63rd min
but Jamie Richards saw his shot brilliantly saved by Butler. Parkgate grabbed
a goal from a scramble in the 73min through G.Waller. and soon after almost
grabbed another when Aitcheson chipped Town keeper Kelly but the ball hit the
post. Town raced up the other end and substitute Phil Harrison beat two defenders
to slot home Towns 6th on 75mins. On 79 minutes Lee Baker hit the byline, pulled
the ball back for Phil Harrison but Butler tipped the ball round the post. Parkgate
grabbed a second when a I.Mileham shot took a deflection and looped over Kelly
on 81 minutes. Town replied immediately, Richard Britten hit a 30 yarder which
Parkgate keeper Butler could only fingertip into the net. 7 - 2 on 82 mins.
Town left the field to rapturous applause from the supporters for a truly convincing
demolition of the opposition

Beverley Town 1 – 3 Bridlington Town
Att: 90est
Bridlington Town eased through to the third round against a spirited Beverley side. Pressuring from the start, Bridlington found Beverley keeper Simpson was in good form to produce several telling saves to deny the Bridlington front men. The first goal came after a foul on Richard Britten. Martin Thacker floated a free kick into the box where captain Lee Harper scored with an outstanding diving header on 17 minutes. Bridlington further established their control five minutes later when a cross to the back post fell kindly for Dave Ingram who netted from close range. 22mins 0 – 2. As Bridlington searched for a third they were again denied by some excellent goalkeeping from Simpson in the Beverley goal. On the stroke of half time Beverley produced the move of the first half with some great interplay down the right and McMillan rifled the ball past Kelly in Bridlingtons goal from the edge of the box. HT 1 – 2
Beverley showed spirit early on in the second half, a looping shot from Evins safely gathered by Kelly. Bridlington then saw Simpson tip round a Craig Burdick shot for a corner. Lee Harper went close again with a header, Craig Burdick saw a shot parried, Phil Harrison netted the rebound but was judged to be offside. Bridlington got a deserved third goal on 62 minutes. A through ball from Lee Jackson was collected by Craig Burdick. Burdick beat his marker and slotted home. 1 – 3. Beverley continued to battle but all their efforts were dealt with by the Bridlington defence, whilst good chances were still falling Bridlingtons way with Harrison seeing a shot tipped over and Jackson heading just over. In stoppage time Bridlington had a clear chance of a fourth but Lee Baker volleyed just over the bar.

Rossington Main 0 - 4 Bridlington Town
Att: 60est
Town continued their winning run with a second half demolition of Rossington.
Bridlington set about their task well with Dave Ingram and Jamie Richards both
going close. Rossington's first chance came from a weak back pass but their
chance was wasted. Town regained control and saw good efforts from Craig Burdick,
Phil Harrison and Burdick again but gained no reward for their industry. With
Town keeping the pressure on, Rossington broke free and Laidlaw won a challenge
with Bridlington keeper Gavin Kelly but captain Lee Harper was on hand to clear
off the line on 20 mins. The game was now alternating, Town going close through
Richards and Rossington's Henderson hitting a shot over the bar. After further
Town pressure Rossington again forced their way back into the fray but after
a ball into the box Rossington's Neil Tooth fell awkwardly and was stretchered
off with a suspected broken ankle. Harrison saw a shot saved by Allen in the
Rossington goal whilst Town keeper Kelly pulled off a superb at the other end.
HT 0 - 0
In the opening minutes of the second half Thacker fed Burdick, his shot was
parried then cleared. Town attacked again through Burdick, this time forcing
a corner. Towns increased workrate brought reward on 55 minutes. Burdick turned
the ball into the path of Phil Harrison who netted to give Town the lead. 1
- 0 Town regained possession from the kick off and won a free kick. Wayne Lewis
lifted the ball into the box where Craig Burdick headed home on 58 minutes.
2 - 0 Town were now completely in control and virtually camped in the Rossington
half. Jamie Richards went close again earning a corner. Martin Thackers corner
was met by the head of Lee Harper to increase the lead on 65 minutes 3 - 0 .
Town were now creating chance after chance and Jamie Richards was unlucky on
numerous occasions, hitting the post in the 80th minute. As Richards persistence
deserved a goal he turned provider, seeing hanother effort blocked the ball
fell kindly for Burdick who slotted home into an empty net. 85 mins 4 - 0 Despite
another couple of chances Town could not add to their tally but they were well
satisfied with the result.

The reserves can count themselves somewhat unfortunate to have gone 0 - 3 down but pulled a goal back with a tremendous effort from Ben Cox, who ran from half way before drilling a tremendous shot past the Chisholms keeper. Further pressure saw the arrears reduced further with a goal from Andy David. Despite having the better of the play in the final quarter the reserves could not find the goal to give them a share of the points. Full Time Chisholms 3 - 2 Brid Town Reserves.

ATT:56
Town got off to a dream start with a goal after just 1 minute and 20 seconds.
A ball into the box was only half cleared and Jamie Richards rifled the ball
into the back of the net to give Town the lead. Richards went close again after
six minutes following a lay off from Mark Barrass. Town added to their lead
following neat interplay between Richards and Thacker and the ball floated into
the box was headed home by Craig Burdick. 2 - 0 on 13 mins. Another neat move
between Harper and Barrass fed Burdick but he blazed over. Mark Barrass should
have scored after Burdick broke down the left but Barrass volleyed over from
close in after 23 mins. With a Staveley player going off injured and no substitutes
for the away side Town took full advantage against the ten men.Phil Harrison
cut into the box, found Craig Burdick and he lifted the ball for Jamie Richards
to head home his second and Town's third on 27 mins. With Staveley struggling,
Town were advancing convincingly, a neat one-two between Ingram and Burdick
should have brought reward but Ingram fired wide. Jamie Richards completed his
hattrick on 43 mins. Richards was brought down in the box for a penalty which
he tucked away comfortably. Town added a fifth on the stroke of half time when
Phil Harrison volleyed in. HT 5 - 0
Town replaced injured keeper Kelly in Town's goal with first half hattrick hero
Jamie Richards and brought on youngster Paul Williamson for his first senior
appearance of the season. Harrison squared the ball to Ingram but his shot was
turned round the post by Hone on 49 mins. Mark Barrass played the ball into
the box for Harrison, he controlled the ball beautifully before skipping round
the defence and netting for Towns 6th goal on 52 mins. After a succession of
corners Town added a 7th when Lee Harper headed home on 67 mins. Town gained
a second penalty on 73 mins but Phil Harrisons kick was saved by Hone in the
Staveley goal. Harrison missed another chance for his hattrick on 75 mins putting
the ball wide, as Town laid siege to the Staveley penalty area. Harrison did
complete his hattrick on 77 mins after stealing the ball from a Staveley defender
and slotting home. Just a minute later Andy Taylor added Towns 9th goal with
a cool tap in from 6 yards. Town couldn't find the last one to make it double
figures but were again well satisfied.

Gedling Town 1 - 5 Bridlington Town
Att:50est
Bridlington's rich scoring vein continued thanks to a ten minute four goal
spree in the first half. After a positive opening half hour by Bridlington the
game burst into life. Mark Barrass latched onto a loose ball and raced into
the box only to be brought down by Gedling keeper Stanhope for a penalty. Jamie
Richards stepped up to slot home on 30 minutes. Just four minutes later Bridlington
were awarded a free kick after Barrass was again fouled. Martin Thacker deftly
stroked the resultant free kick into the top corner of the net from 20 yards
to make it 0 - 2. Town regained possession soon after the restart. Phil Harrison
broke down the left, composed himself to swing in a delightful cross. Martin
Thacker timed his run to perfection to power a header past Stanhope to make
it 0 - 3 on 36 mins. Rampant Bridlington then ripped Gedling apart to go 0 -
4 ahead. After a neat passing move Dave Ingram was picked out in space down
the left. Ingram picked out the unmarked Jamie Richards with an exquisite cross
and Richards fired home from 12 yards to make it 0 - 4 on 40 mins. HT 0 - 4
In the second half, Gedling had the better of the early exchanges but it was
Town who had the first opening when Craig Burdick headed straight at the keeper.
Soon after play was halted for almost ten minutes following a clash between
two Gedling players. They both had to leave the field, one for a gashed head
and the other with a leg injury. As both were replaced Bridlington took the
opportunity to introduce Hirscher for Barrass. After the restart Bridlington
almost extended their lead with Harrison and Richards going close. Gedling raised
their game and tested Bridlington keeper Kelly with a volley from Blasdale.
This gave the home side encouragement and as Gedling attacked again they were
awarded a fortunate penalty with Lee Jackson harshly judged to have handled.
Frawley scored from the spot in the 70th minute to make it 1 - 4. Town responded
by increasing their momentum and went close again when Paul Hirscher crossed
and Martin Thacker's header flashed past the post. Wayne Lewis hit a free kick
towards Jamie Richards who shot on the turn, then Craig Burdick won a challenge
with the Gedling keeper and was perhaps a little complacent in his resulting
shot allowing the Gedling keeper time to recover and save. In stoppage time
a through ball from Martin Thacker found Jamie Richards who raced through to
complete his second hattrick in four days and the sound thrashing of Gedling
1 - 5.

shoulder. Following the restart Phil Harrison went close, as did Martin Thacker
with a free kick, and Lee Harper had a looping header from another free kick
saved. Maltby were looking dangerous on the break and Kelly had to save bravely
at the feet of Somerville. On 26 mins Town had a chance but Lee Jacksons angled
shot hit the side netting. On 34 minutes a long pass from Wayne Lewis found
Jamie Richards. He battled his way into the box but was brought down by Wasden
for a penalty. Martin Thacker comfortably tucked the penalty away to give Town
the lead. The remainder of the half was competitive but neither side could alter
the score. HT 1 - 0
In a flowing opening to the second half Jackson blocked a Maltby shot for a
corner whilst at the other end Dave Ingram fired just over. Ten minutes into
the half Maltby were awarded a hotly disputed penalty which Ward scored to level
matters. Both sides were fully committed to their efforts resulting in several
stoppages for free kicks. Town pressured frequently but the Maltby defence held
firm. With eight minutes remaining a Burdick cross was headed behind for a corner.
Lee Jackson buried the ball into the into the net to regain Town's lead. 2 -
1 82 mins. On 85 mins Craig Burdick raced through but with only the Maltby keeper
to beat he fired over the bar. In the dying minutes Burdick received the ball
from Ingram, he shot but the Maltby Keeper tipped the ball round for a corner.
Town gained a much needed three points from this win. Full Time 2 - 1

Gedling 5 - 2 Bridlington Town
Att: 50est
Town's away league nightmare continued today. Facing a strong winter sun, Town
fell behind in the second minute when Campbell got behind the defence and pulled
the ball back for Blasdale to score. Town then went on the offensive and laid
virtual siege to the Gedling goal for the remainder of the half. Numerous chances
went begging as Gedling defended their line as if they were at Rourkes Drift.
Town's best chances had fallen to Harper, Harrison, Richards, Burdick and Thacker
but they could not penetrate. HT 1 - 0.
Town pressed again in the early stages of the second half but were caught on
the break when Limb was picked out unmarked to head home in the 55th minute.
2 - 0. Town fell further behind when Hollis-Smith found space in the box to
drive past Kelly from 15 yards just 2 minutes later. 3 - 0. Town replied in
the 63rd minute when a Martin Thacker free kick was flicked on by Harper for
Lee Jackson to head home at the far post. 3 - 1. Town dominated again for a
ten minute spell but despite the pressure could not reduce the arrears. Gedling
weathered the storm and hit back with a quick break which saw Hollis-Smith grab
his second and Gedlings fourth. 82mins 4 - 1. From the kick off Town refused
to lie down and pulled another goal back with a powerful drive from 25 yards
by Andy Taylor on 83 mins 4 - 2. Town again tried to claw back the deficit but
were again caught on the break and as Kelly raced out he was beaten by good
footwork from Gedlings Devenport who wrapped up the scoring on 85 mins. 5 -

The final score was no real reflection of the game which Town should have controlled
from the first half and all are well disappointed. They will hope to get back
on track next week at home to Hatfield.

Bridlington Town 1 - 1 Hatfield Main
Att:56
A string of missed chances in the second half again cost Town points.
After an opening 15 minutes which Town perhaps shaded, Hatfield had the first
clear chance when a ball over the top of Town's defence found Groome. His loop
shot was palmed onto the bar by Bridlington keeper Kelly. Town attacked an d
won a free kick to the right hand side, Thacker knocked the ball in and Captain
Lee Harper headed home his 9th goal of the season to give Town the lead on 16
minutes. 1 - 0. Just two minutes late Craig Burdick found space in the Hatfield
box but turned his shot wide. Hatfields Miller had an opportunity but hit his
shot over under challenge from Bridlington's Jackson. A ricochet from midfield
was collected by Hatfield's Groome to race clear but Kelly blocked well to preserve
Town's lead. On 25 minutes Hatfield's Batchelor cut in from the right to find
Groome, Kelly deflected onto the bar and the ball was cleared off the line by
Town's defence. Town won a corner and the ball broke to Ingram who's cross was
glanced just wide by Lee Jackson. Hatfield keeper Murray was twice called into
action by Dave Ingram, firstly to palm away a dangerous cross and then to cling
on to a stingning drive in the 41st minute. On the stroke of half time Groome
had another chance for Hatfield but his shot across the face of the goal was
wide. HT 1 - 0
With just over 5 minutes of the second half gone, Richard Britten had a 20 yard
shot deflected but Hatfield keeper Murray just held on to the ball. Hatfield
pressured for a while, resulting in a cross flashing across the face of the
goal with no one to get the final touch. On the hour Thacker shot after a good
tackle by Britten and soon after Thacker saw another shot saved by Murray. Town
kept pressuring but often the final ball was lacking allowing Hatfield to clear
their defences. Good work by Thacker and Harper fed Phil Harrison who stroked
the ball in the net but was judged offside and the score remained 1 - 0 with
65 mins gone. Then Burdick was again unlucky to see a shot just pass wide of
the post. On 68 mins Burdick fed Town substitute Barrass and though clear he
saw his effort well saved by Murray. As Town pounded the Hatfield defence Burdick
intercepted a Murray clearance but fired straight back at the Hatfield keeper.
On the break Hatfield's Groome hit a left foot shot which was comfortably saved
by Kelly. With 7 minutes remaining a cross into the box by Millar of Hatfield
was harshly judged to have been handled by Thacker. Chapell hit home the penalty
to level the scores. 1 - 1.

Bridlington Town 2-0 Tadcaster Albion
Att:66
Town's first chance came after five minutes when Dave Ingram guided the ball
into the path of Andy Taylor but his 25yd shot dipped over the bar. After good
work from Jamie Richards, Andy Taylor had another chance but his long shot was
tipped round for a corner by Phillips in the Tadcaster goal. Town continued
to press and on the quarter hour Richard Britten volleyed just wide. A through
ball from Britten to Ingram beat the offside trap but Phillips saved well before
Thacker fired wide. Richards was proving tricky for the Tadcaster defence and
won a corner. Thackers corner was cleared back out to him and he floated a cross
into the box where Lee Jackson glanced a header into the far corner to give
Town the lead on 21 mins. Harrison broke clear for Town and tried to lob the
Tadcaster keeper but mis hit his effort on 26 mins. Britten shot from 25yds
then Taylor saw a long shot deflected for a corner. A second successive corner
was headed wide by Jackson. A neat turn and cross from Richards was tipped from
under the crossbar by Phillips but Thacker slipped on taking the corner and
Tadcaster regained possession. Town continued to press in search of a second
and only had to deal with one Tadcaster incursion to their area, and in stoppage
time Burdick was fouled just outside the Tadcaster area. Thacker's free kick
was parried by Phillips but Lee Harper was on hand to follow up and make it
2 - 0 to Town on the stroke of half time. HT 2 - 0
A mazey run by Burdick just 4 minutes into the 2nd half saw him checked blatantly
just outside the box but Thacker's curling free kick was saved by Phillips.
Town were still in the ascendancy but could not add to their tally. In response
Tadcaster brought on all three of their substitutes on the hour mark as they
tried to get back into the game. Great work from Lewis fed Harrison, he crossed
for Richards but Richards pulled his shot wide on 70 mins. After a heavy challenge
Lee Jackson continued after treatment but soon had to leave the field after
breaking down again as the pitch began to freeze. On 80 mins Town broke through
Burdick but he fired wide. Wayne Lewis then tried a speculative 35yd effort
but he too saw his shot go just wide. Andy Taylor went on a run, played a neat
1 - 2 with Richards only to hit the side netting whilst shooting off balance.
Barrass had a drive from 18 yards deflected for a corner. Britten then volleyed
over the bar. Town couldn't grab a 3rd goal but were deserved winners. FT 2

Bridlington Town v Staveley MW 9 - 0
ATT: 70
TOWN ROUT STAVELEY FOR SECOND TIME THIS SEASON
Bridlington Town had this game sewn up in the first half. Town thought they
had had a dream start when Jamie Richards hit home off the post from a Dave
Ingam through ball but was judged marginally offside and the "goal"
was ruled out. Ingram combined with Andy Taylor to cross for Richards but the
ball was just too high for him to make a good connection. With the ¼
hour approaching Phil Harrison lifted the ballinto Craig Burdick, who's crisp
volley dipped just over the bar. Town took the lead after 18 minutes. Good work
again from Ingram saw his cross fired goalwards by Richards, only to be parried
by Staveley keeper Hone, but Phil Harrison was on hand to follow up from close
range. On 25 minutes a long ball from Town captain Lee Harper was deftly flicked
into the path of Richards by Harrison. Richards shot went just over. Town gained
a free kick just outside the left of the Staveley box. Thacker took, Harper
flicked on and Lee Jackson headed home at the far post to give Town a 2 - 0
lead on 27 minutes. After a series of corners Richard Britten saw a shot blocked
on the line a swiftly gathered by Staveley keeper Hone just as Richards was
about to pounce. Just a minute later, on 32 mins, a Wayne Lewis throw was turned
into the box by Burdick and Richards comfortably slotted home for Towns third
goal. On 35 minutes Harrison fed Britten who hit a measured pass to Ingram.
Ingrams shot was parried but Harrison followed up for his second and Town's
fourth. Town added fifth when Richards had an effort blocked, it fell to Ingram
who saw his shot blocked but the ball fell kindly for Richards who netted easily
on 40 minutes. A heavey tackle from Bradbury of Staveley incurred the wrath
of Referee Mr Fox and the red card was shown to leave Staveley with ten men
on 41 minutes. Town added a sixth on 44 minutes when Burdick raced down the
left, laid a beautiful cross for Harrison to slot home for his hattrick. HT
6 - 0
Town started the second half in a similar fashion with the first chance coming
with a Thacker free kick in the 46th minute. A spirited Staveley tried to make
inroads but the ten men couldn't breach the Town lines. Town took the opportunity
to introduced new signing Dave Bannigan(from Hall Road Rgrs) in the 53rd minute
to replace Taylor and inject a little more urgency even though the game looked
all but won and then added another new signing, Dean Wilson (from Goole), replacing
Harrison on 59 minutes. In the 65th minute a Thacker free kick was acrobatically
saved by Hone as Town searched for another goal. Another free kick led to a
goalmouth scramble which spun away for a corner. Thackers corner was headed
goalwards by Jackson and deflected into the net by Richards for his hattrick
on 68 minutes. With 20 minutes remaining Town had a slight lapse in concentration
allowing Staveley to earn a corner but it came to nothing. Good footwork from
Dean Wilson saw him skip inside 2 defenders but fire over. In the 78th minute
Britten lobbed the ball expertly over the Staveley defence to find Mark Barras
who finished clinically for Town's 8th and Barrass added Towns ninth with a
15 yard drive in the 80th minute. Two minutes later Britten saw a shot saved,
Richards hit the post and Britten had the opportunity for an easy side foot
home but missed the target. Town couldn't find a tenth but the score was an
uncanny repeat of the Wilkinson Sword game in November when Richards and Harrison
both grabbed hattricks also.

Att: 71
This was always going to be a close, hard fought contest.
Town had the first chance in this game when Jamie Richards fired wired from
12 yards after 2 minutes but it was Worsbrough who opened the scoring just two
minutes later. A cross into the box saw Town keeper Kelly attempt to gather
the ball but received a heavy challenge from Worsbrough's Watson who glanced
the ball into the net. 0 - 1. After Kelly had received treatment Town responded
in the best fashion. Dave Ingram lifted the ball into the box, Lee Jackson helped
it on and captain Lee Harper headed home to level the scores after 8 minutes.
1 - 1. Town pressured and almost gained reward when Lee Jackson was put through
by Harrison but a timely challenge from a Worsbrough defender forced Jackson
to hit wide. A miss hit clearance from Town's defence allowed Worsbrough's Kent
to shoot but Kelly gathered easily. After 17 minutes a through ball saw Jamie
Richards in space, he raced through but his shot just grazed the outside of
the post. Harrison found space to run down the right, crossed for Burdick but
Burdick mis controlled and the chance went. On 36 minutes Worsbrough broke down
Town's left, Bray crossed and Oliver headed home to give Worsbrough the lead
again.
HT 1 - 2
Town pressured from the start of the second half. Five minutes into the second
half a left wing cross from Harrison found the head of Richards but Brooke in
the Worsbrough goal pulled off an excellent save. Town earned a corner which
Thacker took.and Lee Harper headed home for his and Town's second to level matters
on 51 minutes. 2 - 2. Just after the hour a slick move down the right saw Wayne
Lewis collect from Thacker but his volley went over. Another good move from
Town saw the ball spin free to Harrison who rifled a shot that just grazed the
top of the bar on 65mins. On 68 minutes the watching crowd was mystified as
the referee showed the red card to Town's Ingram. Which can only have been for
a misplaced comment to the referee. Worsbrough then had the benefit of a period
of possession but frequently lost control of the ball. Worsbrough had the ball
in the net on 79 minutes but the assistant referee had already flagged for a
hand ball and the "goal" was ruled out. As the game headed in to the
last five minutes Town were pressuring again and won a corner, the ball fell
for Britten but he shot just wide. In stoppage time Worsbrough claimed a penalty
but Bray was booked for diving.

Rossington Main 1 - 4 Bridlington Town
Att: 60est
Town gained their first away league win of the season with a commanding display
at Rossington. On a tricky pitch, both sides took time to settle with little
action in the opening ¼ hour, when Rossington forced a corner. Town opened
the scoring when a Martin Thacker free kick was headed onto the post and in
by Lee Harper. 0 - 1 on 29mins. Town added a second goal when Jamie Richards
got free down the right, beat a defender, whipped in a cross to the far post
where Phil Harrison was on hand to score after 36 minutes. Town remained on
top for the remainder of the half and thoroughly deserved the half time lead.
HT 0 - 2.
Rossington began the second half with a bit more vigour but on 53 minutes had
the wind knocked from their sails when Town added to their score. Good work
down the right won a corner, which was taken by Thacker. Lee Jackson headed
home. 0 - 3. Town continued to have the better of the possession and control
but were frequently halted for niggly infringements with the referee blowing
for free kicks. Rossington grabbed a goal back on 81 minutes.. Having gained
an indirect free kick to the right of Town's penalty area. A quick touch to
Phil Beal saw him strike a low shot that deflected off Taylor and evaded Kelly
in Town's goal. 1 - 3. In the dying minutes Town frequently pushed forwarded
creating pandemonium in the Rossington defence. With 90 minutes on the watch,
another Thacker corner was headed home by Lee Harper to round off the game for
Town. 1 - 4 final score.

Over recent years matches between the two sides have always been close encounters
and a gritty local derby was expected.
Town had the better of the opening exchanges and began to control possession.
This soon paid off when a throw in was well worked and the ball reached Phil
Harrison who tucked the ball into the corner of the net past the stretching
Hall Road keeper Dobson. 1 - 0 on 7 mins. As the rain poured down, making the
surface slippery, Flounders flicked the ball on for Barnwell to shoot but Kelly
in the Bridlington goal saved comfortably. As Town pushed on they were guilty
at times of not passing quickly and getting caught offside. Andy Taylor made
a powerful run down the right and an excellent cross forced the Hall Road defence
to concede a corner. After 27 mins, from a Taylor throw, Richards and Harrison
both flicked on and Barrass fired at goal but Dobson held on. More good work
saw Burdick get through and again Dobson had to save well. As the half hour
approached Town created another opening and Richard Britten fired just wide
from 30 yards. Hall Road pushed forward and forced Town to concede a corner
but Town cleared. Town continued to pressure up to half time but could not add
to the score. HT 1 - 0
Town forced two successive corners in the first minute of the second half and
Harper was unfortunate to see his header go wide. On 52 minutes a scintillating
move from Town ended with a Thacker shot just grazing the post. Burdick then
broke down the right, crossed for Harrison who fired across the face of the
goal. Barrass and Harrison combined down the left to force another corner for
Town. After a scramble in the box Hall Road cleared, but Town again pressured.
From a free kick in Town's half, Kelly launched the ball forward where Harrison
just failed to get a touch. On the hour Hall Road introduced two substitutes
and had a spell of possession resulting in a shot from Gibbons which went wide.
Town conceded a free kick 30 yards out on 77 mins but Kelly easily held the
ball. A timely tackle in midfield from Britten set up Harrison. He laid the
ball on for Burdick who shot wide. Hall Road had a chance after Harper slipped.
Barnwell collected and raced into the box but was off target with his shot on
80 mins. As the game ran into stoppage time Burdick crossed for Harrison but
Hall Road managed to scramble the ball away for a corner as the referee blew
for time. A well earned win and three points for Town.

Att: 80
Town eased comfortably into the final for the second year running.
From the off Town pressured, forcing two early corners but without reward. A
third corner was flicked on at the near post by Jackson but Tadcaster scrambled
clear. A mis-timed layoff by Lewis gave an opportunity to Tadcasters Duckworth
but Kelly saved bravely at his feet after 8 mins. With 14 minutes on the watch
Thacker was fouled and got up to take the free kick himself. A delightful pacey
ball into the box was volleyed home from 8 yards by Lee Harper to give Town
the lead. 1 - 0. Thacker was soon in action again when he deftly collected the
ball, ran into the box and fed Barrass who chipped the ball to the far post
but Tadcaster's MacLoud just managed to clear the ball when Richards was waiting
to pounce. Good work from Richards on the right saw him cross for Harrison who
was stretching and the keeper gathered. On 24 minutes a cross from Taylor saw
Harrison one on one with Hudson but Hudson managed to parry for a corner. Another
Thacker free kick was volleyed by Richards from 18 yards but Hudson saved well
at the near post. A surging run from Taylor from his own half saw him crudely
scythed down 5 yards outside the Tadcaster box. Thacker again took the free
kick and saw his curling shot graze the post. Tadcaster looked dangerous on
the break and a long shot from Duckworth flashed past the post on the half hour.
Tadcaster gained their first corner on 37 minutes but Kelly easily collected
and launched the ball upfield. A Burdick through ball found Britten who saw
his effort go agonisingly wide. Tadcaster came into the game a little more as
half time approached but Town's defence dealt comfortably and finished the half
once again on the attack. HT 1 - 0.
Early in the second half Town pressured the Tadcaster box where Richards nodded
down for Thacker but he blazed over. As the hour mark approached Richards raced
through but saw the ball bobble away from him to be collected by Hudson. Town
again looke dangerous from a free kick when Harper turned and shot but straight
at Hudson on 65 mins. Soon after a Burdick cross was headed just over the bar
by Tadcaster's Gilks for a corner. Thacker whipped the ball in and it was flicked
on by Jackson and fell kindly for Burdick to net from close range on 68 mins.
2 - 0. Intricate work down the right between Harrison and Burdick and Richards
was only half cleared to the edge of the box where Thacker hit a left foot drive
into the bottom corner to make it 3 - 0 on 70 mins. Town regained possession
from the kick off and Richards saw his shot turned just round the post by Hudson.
Town were in full flow and had the ball in the net again but Burdick was ruled
offside. Town introduced Ingram for Harrison an he almost made immediate impact
with a shot from 18 yards that went just wide. A long clearance from Kelly caused
dissaray in the Tadcaster defence and forced a corner. Tacker's corner was headed
home by Britten to make it 4 - 0 on 80 mins. Wilson and Burdick combined down
the left and crossed for Britten to add his second and Town 5th on 86 mins.
5 - 0. Wilson had the ball in the net on 88 but was ruled offside.
Town now look forward to a final appearance against either Lincoln Moorlands
or Worsbrough Bridge.

NCEL League Cup R3
Bridlington Town 2 - 3 Hallam aet
Att: 103
The Queensgate crowd were treated to a scintillating cup tie tonight.
With the game off at a furious pace, Town almost shocked their Premier Division
opposition early when a stinging 20 yard shot from Martin Thacker was tipped
round for a corner after just four minutes. With Town giving as good as they
got Burdick just missed out when a Thacker cross was plucked from the air just
in front of him on 20 mins. Good work down the right fed Burdick who crossed
for Barrass. His shot was just finger tipped round for a corner on 25 mins.
Hallam prewssured but Town regained possession and Barrass spurned a chance
shooting when other options looked more favourable. A free kick from their own
half for Town found Phil Harrison in the Hallam box but as he lined up to shoot
the ball was whisked away from him. Hallam surged forward and earned a corner
but Town cleared and raced forward. Thacker lifted a kick into the Hallam box
for Harper to flick on but Hallam keeper Scargill gathered. With Town having
perhaps the better of the first half the scores remained 0 - 0 at Half time.
Town took the game to Hallam at the start of the second half. Craig Burdick
cut in from the right, fad Phill Harrison who turned the ball into the box.
Amidst a scramble Jamie Richards got his foot to the ball to steer it past Scargill
to give Town the lead on 46 minutes. Taylor, Harrison and Burdick linked well
to earn Town another corner but Referee Storrie spotted an infringement. Hallam
saw a shot from Diggle run wide after 58 mins as they tried to get back into
the game. Despite their efforts Towns defence dealt with all. Town pushed again
and a Thacker free kick found the head of Burdick but again Scargill fingertipped
the ball round the post to deny Town. A back pass from Hallam was weakly cleared
by Hallams Scargill straight to Richards but he failed to take advantage and
Scargill reclaimed the ball after 72 mins. Excellent work from Barrass down
the left saw the ball laid on for Ingram but his shot was charged down by the
Hallam defence. Hallam had a golden chance to draw level in the 83rd minute
when Hallam substitute Froggatt was picked out unmarked in the box but his left
foot shot was thankfully off target. On 86 minutes Burdick was at full stretch
for a touch but Scargill gathered. Hallam desperately tried to get onto level
terms but again the Bridlington side stemmed the flow. With 90 minutes on the
watch all of the Town players and supporters were gutted when Hallam threw everyone
into the box for a long throw and the ball undeservedly found its way into the
Town net to level matters and take the game into extra time.
90 mins 1 - 1.
Hallam ahd the first chance of extra time with Morris firing over in the 94th
min. In the 97th minute Thacker was fouled 30 yards out, took the free kick
himself and once again Scargill had to tip the ball over to save Hallam. Town
had a scare on 104 mins when a Hallam shot beat Kelly but Harper was on hand
to clear off the line. Hallam had another chance through Froggatt but he stumbled
and lost possession. Town tore upfield, Thacker neatly nipped inside two Hallam
defenders and curled a delightful shot into the corner of the net to give Town
the lead again on the 105th minute.
Town conceded a free kick 30 yards out after 112mins. Hallam lifted the ball
into the box and Willis scrambled the ball home to level the scores again 2
- 2. Town kept on pressuring with both Thacker and Richards shooting though
off target. With both sides having used their full complement of substitutes
Hallam pushed forward and won a corner. Morris nipped in to poke the ball home
to give Hallam a 3 - 2 lead and the winning goal in the 120th minute to break
Town's hearts.

Town were the first to show in this game when Ingram fed Richards but Richards
shot over from 20 yds. Good interplay between Ingram and Thacker saw another
long shot go over. After 8 mins a Thacker free kick lifted into the box was
headed by Lee Harper but staright at Winterton keeper Herrick. Neat exchanges
between Burdick, Ingram and Harrison created another chance for Town but the
final touch was missing. As Town pressured Thacker was obstructed on the left
hand corner of the box. The free kick found its way to Harper who shot on the
turn but was unlucky to see his effort go just wide on 10 mins. A great run
from Burdick laid the ball into Richards in the box, Richards shot was blocked
but Burdick followed up to give Town the lead on 12 mins. 1 - 0. Town were having
the majority of the pressure but Winterton pushed up and after 20 minutes a
shot from Banks went inches past Town's post. Town continued to threaten with
Taylor and Burdick both having good runs and Winterton restricted to long range
punts up field to clear. Although from one a deep cross found Winterton's Lytollis
and his header was put out for a corner by Kelly. Town cleared quickly, Burdick
broke into the box, crossed for Richards and his effort went agonisingly wide.
A dangerous cross from Taylor was turned behind by Winterton for a corner on
35 mins. Tha ball ran out to Lee Jackson and his snapshot from 18 yards was
tipped over by Herrick. A second corner saw a Burdick shot cleared off the line.
The remaining ten minutes of the half were a scrappy affair with several stoppages
for niggly fouls and injuries. With five minutes of stoppage time added Winterton
had a chance when Jackson was penalised but Winterton failed to capitalise from
the free kick. HT 1 - 0
Early in the second half a Jamie Richards shot took a deflection allowing Herrick
to save. A great challenge from Barrasss saw hi send the ball forwards for Richards
but the Winterton defence cleared. Great possession from Thacker down the right
saw him cross into the box, Herrick fumbled the ball and Barrass followed up
and when it looked easier to score he scooped the ball over the bar from 3yards.
On 61 minutes a neat move down the right saw a cross pick out Jamie Richards.
Richards coolly picked his spot to bury the ball in the back of the net. 2 -
0. Five minutes later Thacker laid the ball through, beating the offside trap
where Richards rounded the keeper to slot home for his second and Town's 3rd.
3 - 0. On 75 minutes Taylor linked with Richards and they fed Burdick into the
box. As he rounded the keeper he was brought down for a penalty and Winterton
keeper Herrick was shown the red card. Vas Nikolaidis took over in goal for
Winterton but Martin Thacker stepped up to score Town's fourth. 4 - 0. Town
piled on the pressure and came close to a fifth when a Dave Ingram shot was
fumbled behind for a corner on 84 mins. Barrass played a good reverse ball to
Richards on 88 mins but Richards drive was blocked by the keeper.

Mickleover 1 - 2 Bridlington Town
Att: 75est
Bridlington Town continued their good league form with this hard fought win
at Mickleover.
The home side were first to show and Town keeper Gavin Kelly had to show safe
hands from Mickleover's Sailsman and McGovern. Town settled and began to play
the better football, though a number of strong challenges went unpunished. Town
eventually got the breakthrough when a neat interchange saw Craig Burdick release
Phil Harrison who made no mistake to grab his 18th goal of the season in the
40th minute. Town went close again but had to settle for a single goal lead
at half time. HT 0 - 1
Town were the quickest out of the traps in the second half and increased their
lead. A clever through ball from Martin Thacker saw Craig Burdick race clear
to deftly beat Micklover keeper Wilson in the 46th minute 0 - 2. Mickleover
were reduced to ten players when Barrass powered through the middle only to
be scythed down by McGinty in the 52nd minute. A second yellow card saw him
leave the field. A slick move should have seen Town go three goals up but Harrison's
brilliant chip over the keeper curled agonisingly wide. Town's Richard's and
Harper also came close to adding to the score as Town tried to utilise their
numerical advantage. Mickleover refused to give in and battled well forcing
Town to defend deeply with Wayne Lewis getting in an important header back to
keeper Kelly. At the other end a Jackson free kick found Phil Harrison who picked
out Jamie Richard's but his shot was tipped over the bar. Mickleover pulled
a goal back in the 82nd minute. A free kick was swung in to Town's box. Town
failed to clear and the ball fell kindly for Warren to fire in to the net. 1
- 2. Town made hard work of it in the closing minutes but held on to claim a
deserved three points.

NCEL Presidents Cup Semi Final
Bridlington Town 2
Goole 1
Att: 117
Town booked their second final place of the season with a battling victory in
this derby cup semi final.
With just a minute on the watch Town created the first chance when a ball from
Ingram into the box was met by Burdick but his shot hit the side netting. The
game progressed with both sides playing good football but neither finding an
opening. A long ball into Town's box bounced kindly for Saville of Goole bbut
he fired his shot straight at Kelly in Town's goal on 8 mins. Town earned a
corner on the quarter hour but Goole had packed their defence and cleared. Several
times Town were caught just offside but then gained reward. On 18 minutes Burdick
raced through and was brought down by Jenkinson just inside the box and Town
were awarded a penalty. Thacker's pacey kick gave Hood in Goole's goal no chance
and gave Town the lead. 1 - 0. After some pressure from Goole Town cleared and
Harrsion raced away only to be pulled back by Goole's last defender Trotter.
Referee Haycock had no option but to send Trotter off on 29 mins. Ten man Goole
now had to battle to get back into the game but their passion led to one or
two unsavoury challenges. Jackson, Taylor and Harrison were on the receiving
end and Harrison was substituted after 35mins by Hirscher. From a Goole free
kick Saville headed down for Marchant but he blazed over. Goole forced a corner
and Kelly in Town's goal was blocked but the defence cleared. A fortunate deflection
gave Saville a shooting chance but Jackson got across to block superbly. At
the other end from a Taylor throw Richards flicked on and Thacker rifled a shot
straight at Hood in the Goole goal.. A long ball from Kelly was latched onto
by Burdick but he could only toe poke the ball at the Goole keeper. As the half
closed Burdick had a golden chance to put Richards in but slightly over hit
the ball. In stoppage time of the first half Burdick was again in the action
and was brought down 5 yds outside the box. The free kick was deflected for
a corner. Harpers acrobatic effort looped just over the bar. HT 1 - 0.
From the start of the second half Town went about their task with vigour causing
panic in the Goole defence. Richards fed Hirscher who made an angle but his
shot was deflected and Hood gathered. Another unsavoury challenge from Goole
saw another booking. Town again had space in the box but lost possession and
Goole charged but their shooting was wayward. Goole gained a corner on 55mins.
Kelly failed to gather and Town scrambled the ball clear. Goole were spurred
into action and pressured Town but a foul on Ingram gave Town possession. Goole
battled hard and Town conceded a free kick outside the box. The ball was lifted
in and Marchant headed home despite Kelly getting a hand to the ball to level
the scores on 64 mins. 1 - 1 Town regained possession and won a free kick. Thacker
lifted the kick into the box and Burdick sent a looping header past the flailing
Hood on 68 minutes to restore Town's lead. On 72 mins a long free kick into
Town's box was headed on and looped just over Town's bar. Burdick's pace again
caused problems and earned a corner but the referee blew for an infringement.
On 80 minutes Burdick hit a 20yds shot on the turn and it flashed across the
face of the goal. Spirited Goole still looked dangerous and Town had to be aware.
Town were forced to defend but Cox pulled his left foot shot wide on 87mins.
In stoppage time the outstanding Burdick got clear, out paced the defender but
Hood saved his shot from the edge of the box but it didn't matter as the referee
blew for time. 2 - 1

Yorkshire Amateurs 0 - 1 Bridlington Town
Att: 60est
Bridlington Town maintained their winning league form with a ground out result
in Leeds. After Town had started well Amateurs broke down the left Mark Ball
hit a powerful shot from a narrow angle but Kelly saved well. Town controlled
much of the ball with several good moves but the final crosses failed to find
a Town attacker. Amateurs rarely threatened as Town looked to break the deadlock.
As the mainly uninspiring first half drew to a close a cross into the Amateurs
box from Ingram saw Lee Harper felled and the referee awarded a penalty which
Martin Thacker comfortably netted on 44 mins. HT 0 - 1.
Town upped the pace in the second half and began to play more of the flowing
football the supporters have been used to over recent weeks. Lee Jackson played
Dave Ingram in with a delightful back heel and Ingram's cross was touched into
the side netting by Craig Burdick. Amateurs had a spell of possession when Town
suffered from inconsistent bounces and sliced clearances but the Leeds side
couldn't penetrate further. Town spent long periods in Amateurs half and Wayne
Lewis crossed from the left and Craig Burdick saw a pin point header just finger
tipped over by Tabor in the Amateurs goal. A second for Town had looked likely
but no further score emerged as in the final minutes Amateurs threw everyone
forward in search of an equaliser, forcing a couple of corners but Town held
firm for the three points.

NCEL Wilkinson Sword Trophy Final 1st Leg
Bridlington Town 4
Lincoln Moorlands 0
Att:109
Town comfortably gained the advantage in this first leg with some outstanding
team play at Queensgate.
After a delayed kick off due to an electrical fault on the floodlights, Town
went about their task with vigour, attacking the Lincoln defence. Lincoln burst
back forcing a corner but could not make it count. Town gained a half way line
free kick and launched forward, Jackson headed on, the keeper fumbled and Jamie
Richards shot was handled to give Town a penalty. Thacker despatched the kick
with his usual aplomb to give Town the lead on 6mins. Lincoln were spurred into
life and fought their way into Town's half but the defence held and Town regained
possession to pressure Lincoln again and a Dave Ingram 25yard shot grazed the
bar after 11 mins. After just 15 mins Town earned a corner and from it Harper's
header was cleared off the line by Finney and a second corner was also cleared.
After some pressure from Lincoln Town broke through Burdick, he was tackled
but the ball broke for Ingram who crossed and Burdick fed Richards who buried
the ball in the corner of the net to make it 2 - 0 on 19 mins. Richards and
Taylor combined to give Burdick a chance but the ball just ran away from him.
Lincoln pressed forward, gained a free kick and then won a corner from it. As
the ball was half cleared a Lincoln shot was cleared from the 6 yard box by
Barrass. Back up the other end it was Town's turn but Jacksons header was just
over. Town attacked again and Burdick couldn't get enough power in his shot
and Lincoln keeper Stafford collected. After the half hour Barrass saw a 20
yrd shot loop over the bar. Lincoln won a free kick just to the right of Town's
area. Robinson played the ball in but Town's Jackson was fouled. Both sides
were giving all and produced some gritty football at both ends as the first
half came to a close. HT 2 - 0
Town worked steadily down their right wing eventually winning a corner but Lincoln
cleared and fought back forcing Town to defend. Town went back on the offensive
but lost possession after a foul, only to quickly regain and threaten through
Burdick. Shortly after, good play between Taylor and Barrass saw a shot rasp
into the side netting. Both sides went through a spell of good midfield tackling
with possession swinging both ways around the hour mark before Town gained some
thrust, earning a corner but after a scramble Lincoln claimed possession. Pressure
from Town forced Lincoln to concede a succession of throw ins down the right
before Ingram shot over. Lincoln could only clear long balls and Town's defence
dealt comfortably and put the pressure back on Lincoln. From a corner Burdick
again went close with a header on 67 mins. From the goal kick Town immediately
regained possession, found Richards in the box who tucked the ball into the
net for Town's 3rd. 3 - 0. Straight from the kick off Town were again on the
attack and pegged the Lincoln side in their own half. Lincoln were now looking
ragged as Town quickly closed them down. Excellent control from Burdick almost
played Barrass in but the Lincoln defender just got a touch. On 79 minutes a
deep cross from Barrass almost produced reward but the ball dropped just over
the bar. Town again attacked and Burdick raced through to slot home for Town's
4th on 81 mins. 4 - 0. Inside the last five minutes a rare break from Lincoln
earned them a corner but Town cleared and raced upfield to give shooting chances
to both Richards and Thacker.

Louth United 0
Att: 69
Bridlington Town once again grabbed three points in their promotion push against
a hard working Louth side.
Town's first opening came after two minutes when new signing Paul Palmer linked
with Craig Burdick to find Shaun Baker, who had run from deep, but Louth defended
the threat. A good run and long shot from Andy Taylor was deflected for a corner
but again Louth cleared. On 6 minutes Palmer surged forwards but his cross for
Richards was put out for a corner. A clearance from Louth was headed back into
the box by Harper, where Palmer hit a volley on the turn, but the ball went
just wide on 13 minutes. From a corner Lee Jackson headed goalward but his effort
was cleared off the line. Following a foul on Palmer a Thacker free kick was
floated in and a flick header from Lee Harper was saved by Louth's Metheringham.
Town were now spending long periods in Louth's half but could not find the clinical
ball required. On a rare excursion upfield Louth work well down their left and
from the cross Unsworth hit a left foot shot well wide of the post on 35mins.
On 40 mins a Craig Burdick cross was headed just wide by the diving Palmer.
Town pressed for the remainder of the half but the scores remained level. HT
0 - 0
Just 4 minutes into the second half Town had a scare when Towleh and Hall combined
for Louth but Hall fired wide. Town appealed for a penalty after a Jackson free
kick was flicked on by Harper and Palmer appeared to be felled but the referee
waved play on. A deep ball to Jamie Richards in the box was touched round the
keeper. Palmer went to collect and was brought down for a penalty. 54 mins.
Thacker took the penalty but unlike the previous three games, he hit the post
and the scores remained level. Louth then pressured and earned a corner but
it was poorly taken. Louth had another chance on the hour through Hall but he
fired just wide when in space. From a throw in, Richards worked a space on the
edge of the box from where he picked out Craig Burdick who powered home a header
to give Town the lead on 66 minutes. Town were temporarily reduced to ten men
whilst Wayne Lewis had to leave the field for attention for a head injury. A
missed clearance in Town's midfield let in Louth's Hall again but the defence
got back to clear for a corner. Louth pressed for an equaliser but Town regained
possession. Louth cleared up field where Hall picked out Creer. He turned inside
but the Bridlington defence held firm. As the game entered the last five minutes
Louth defender Nicholson saw a long shot deflected and Kelly had to stretch
to put the ball for a corner. In the last minute Burdick and Richards raced
into the Louth box but neither could get the final touch and Louth cleared up
field to chase an equaliser. Town regained control and pushed back into the
Louth half but the referee called time.

NCEL President's Cup Final 1st Leg
Bridlington Town 2
Alfreton 1
Att: 147
A cracking cup tie at Queensgate saw Bridlington get the better of their Premier
Division opponents.
Alfreton were first on the attack and Goddard drew a foul from Jackson 30 yards
out. A well worked free kick almost let Alfreton in but Town cleared. After
a lot of possession Goddard worked an opening but fired wide on 3 minutes. Just
two minutes later Alfreton won another free kick on the edge of the box but
Kelly held Wilder's shot. Town weathered the storm and attacked, but Richards
was quickly closed down. Town attacked again and Harrison's cross for Barrass
was headed behind for a corner. A second corner followed soon after but Alfreton
keeper Turner held well. Again Bridlington pressed and Burdick hit a stinger
from the edge of the box that Turner had to tip over on 13 mins. A loose pass
in midfield from Bridlington, Alfreton regained possession and were 3 on 2 and
Bridlington had to clear for a corner. Town were reduced to ten men as Harper
received treatment for an injury, but held firm. Taylor set Bridlington on the
attack again with a great midfield tackle and Barrass ran 40 yards to shoot
just wide. Bridlingtn cleared a free kick and raced upfield through Lewis. He
passed to Richards who controlled and slotted home from 18 yards to give Town
the lead on 27 mins. Alfreton worked the ball down the right and gained a throw
near the by-line. Hindley hit a left foot volley but Bridlington keeper Kelly
was solidly behind the ball. Bridlington pressured and Alfreton keeper Turner
fumbled but just got a hand to the ball as Richards pounced. Lewis hit a shot
to the near post forcing Turner again to palm round on 35 mins. Alfreton attacked
and a deep cross from Hindley looked dangerous but evaded everyone on 40 mins.
A free kick for Town was launched in by Lewis and Baker powered a header just
grazing the post. Another Town attack saw a looping shot from Baker just go
over the bar. Town attacked again and beat the offside trap with Baker again
on the ball but as he curled his shot past Turner he hit the bar when perhaps
a pass to Burdick would have produced reward on 44mins. The Bridlington side
were worthy half time leaders. HT 1 - 0
Alfreton attacked from the start of the second half, forcing a corner than gaining
a free kick but Kelly punched clear. Town attacked and a Thaker free kick was
lifted in for Harper but the referee ruled an infringement. Town lost possession
in midfield and a ball in from Alfreton's Schofield found Goddard but he hit
his shot wide on 57 mins. For Bridlington, Taylor sent the ball into the box
but Turner gathered. Alfreton pressured, winning a corner but Kelly was impeded
and Bridlington regained possession. With the game midway through the second
half both teams seemed to have each others' measure and cancelled any threats.
Town almost broke through but Richards was caught offside on 70 mins. Alfreton
pressured with Dolby twisting and turning but Town eventually scrambled clear.
Town attacked through Richards and he fired at the keeper. Alfreton hit back
and tore through Town and Goddard found space to fire past Kelly to level the
scores. 1 - 1 74 mins. A great run down the right from Burdick found Richards
in the box. He turned and shot but hit the side netting on 80mins. On 86 minutes
Harrison hit a shot from 25 yards which Turner tipped over. From the corner
Harper flicked on and Burdick headed home to restore Town's lead 2 - 1. With
time running out Burdick cut in from the right and curled a shot which just
grazed the post. Town held out to record a famous victory

Lincoln Moorlands 1 - 1 Bridlington Town
Att: 70est
Town let two points slip in their quest for promotion in a scrappy draw in
Lincoln. Town showed early and Lee Jackson got round the back of the Lincoln
defence but was stretching and fired over. Lincoln responded and pressured Town
with Whittle forcing a fine save from Bridlington keeper Kelly on 9 mins. Lincoln
were now perhaps the more prominent of the two sides but Town dealt with any
threat. Town cleared upfield where Richards held the ball up well before being
fouled. Thacker lifted the ball in from the free kick and Craig Burdick was
on hand to head home and give Bridlington the lead on 28 minutes. For the remaining
fifteen minutes of the half Town continued to press and were awarded a succession
of free kick from niggly infringements conceded by Lincoln. The better chances
came from Harper, Harrison and Burdick but the final touch never fell kindly.
HT 0 - 1
The second half continued as the first had finished with Town pressing but play
was interrupted for a series of free kicks after the referee had judged infringements
by both sides. Lincoln launched a long ball upfield, one of Town's defenders
slipped allowing Lincoln's Aspin to get control and he picked his spot to beat
Kelly and level the scores on 62 mins. Town introduced substitutes Palmer and
Ingram in an effort to regain control and earned a couple of corners but Lincoln
keeper Bradshaw collected on both occasions. Lincoln again pressed and the long
high ball again almost caught to Town when a header was glanced back but the
defence recovered to clear. As Town combined well through Richards and Ingram,
a cross for Burdick was well hit but saved by the Lincoln keeper. Again Town
searched for the lead and Richards shot on the turn was just over. With fifteen
minutes remaining Lincoln had gained a corner. When the ball came in it looked
as if Kelly had been fouled, a scuffle ensued, and the referee had spotted other
infringements. This led to bookings for Town keeper Kelly, a Lincoln player
and a second yellow card for Bridlington's Lee Jackson who had to leave the
field. Bouyed by this decision, Lincoln almost took advantage of their numerical
superiority when Shelley got clear and smashed a shot against the bar but there
was no-one following up and the scores remained level. Bridlington finished
the stronger despite having only ten men but could not find a winner. The overall
performance was below par for Town and against better opposition they could
have struggled to hang on for a point. It did however, stretch Town's unbeaten
league run to eleven games. Final Score 1 - 1

Bridlington Town.. 2 won on Golden Goal
Easington United.. 1
At Dene Park
Despite being without injured Captain Lee Harper, Bridlington Town reached their third final of the season after being taken to extra time by Easington Utd. After falling benind to an early goal by Craig Foster, Town dominated the match to reach the final thanks to goals from Dave Ingram and an extra time, golden goal winner by Wayne Lewis. (108 minutes).
The Seasiders dominated for more than 80 minutes but an outstanding display by Easington keeper Appleyard almost single handedly kept Town at bay. Appleyard denied Town's Phil Harrison on at least 6 occasions and also clung on to efforts from Jamie Richards, Craig Burdick, Shaun Baker and Andy Taylor. On the odd occasion Appleyard was unable to get to a Town shot, his defence somehow managed to scramble the ball clear.
Fosters 2nd minute opener was cancelled out by Dave Ingram just before the break(44 minutes). Phil Harrison picked out Ingram wide on the left. Ingram cut in and his clever lob over the keeper sent the teams in level at the break. Easington were reduced to ten men following the sending off of Reynolds but they refused to buckle under Town's constant pressure. Despite somehow clinging on to the end of 90 minutes, Easington finally buckled 18 minutes into extra time when Craig Burdick's half blocked shot was headed in at the far post by Wayne Lewis for Town to reach their third final of the season courtesy of the golden goal rule. It had been virtually one way traffic for most of the game but Easington deserve credit for hanging on so long.

Tadcaster responded, earning a corner but could not benefit. More Bridlington
pressure saw efforts from Richards again and Jackson, before an excellent through
ball from Wayne Lewis found Harrison but he saw his shot well saved by Byford
in the Tadcaster goal. Town survived a scare with five minutes of the first
half remaining when Tadcaster's Batley nipped the ball past Houghton and fired
a shot against the post. From the rebound Batley again shot and Kelly in Bridlington's
goal made a fine save. In the dying moments of the first half Town gained a
corner and Lewis headed just inches wide.
HT 0 - 0
Town introduced Paul Palmer for the start of the second half and he was soon
in the action seeing a header go straight to Byford. Palmer's movement was creating
better openings for Town and on 53 minutes Thacker picked up the ball in space
a rifled a shot goalward. A slight deflection wrong footed the Tadcaster keeper
and the ball nestled into the bottom of the net. 1 - 0. The Bridlington side
were now dominant and spending long periods in the Tadcaster half and had appeals
for a penalty turned down after Harrison had been bundled over by the Tadcaster
keeper. Thacker and Palmer combined well on several occasions, Palmer heading
wide on 65mins and Thacker seeing his shot saved on 70 mins. Town gave themselves
breathing space with a second goal on 74 minutes. Craig Burdick intercepted
the ball and beat two Tadcaster defenders before firing under Byford into the
net. 2 - 0. Just four minutes later Wayne Lewis powered home a near post header
from a Thacker corner to make it 3 - 0 on 79 minutes. Town were rarely troubled
for the remaining ten minutes to register a comfortable 3 - 0 win.

NCEL President's Cup Final 2nd Leg
Alfreton 1 - 0 Bridlington Town (Agg: 2 - 2 Alfreton win on away goal)
Att:439
For the second year running Bridlington Town suffered the heartbreak of losing
a cup final on the away goals rule.
Bridlington took the game to their Premier Division opponents from the off,
a through ball laid on for Barrass but just too far for him to reach, then breaking
through only for Harrison to be caught offside. Alfreton responded and Kelly
had to save from Alfreton's Dolby. Bridlington again created chances with Barrass
shooting wide and Burdick firing over. After a long through ball from Alfreton,
Bridlington pressured forcing a corner. Jackson flicked on but the ball was
half cleared to Richards who shot but the Alfreton keeper saved. Alfreton then
gained possession and forced two corners in quick succession but Bridlington
held firm. As Bridlington keeper Kelly cleared the ball forwards it was headed
back into the path of Goddard who raced through to fire past Kelly and give
Alfreton the lead on 25 minutes. 1 - 0. Five minutes later Alfreton had another
chance through France who shot wide when in space. Alfreton now were in the
ascendant but Bridlington's defence managed to deal with any threat to keep
the score at 1 - 0 at half time.
Bridlington searched for a goal in the early minutes of the second half with
a Thacker free kick finding Jackson but he hit wide. Alfreton returned play,
with France again firing wide for Alfreton before Bridlington regained momentum,
creating chances for Thacker and a glancing header from Richards that went straight
to the keeper on the hour mark. The game was swinging both ways with Alfreton's
Goddard again going close and Bridlington pressuring and gaining free kicks
near the Alfreton box but unable to find a vital touch. With 15 minutes remaining
Thacker went on a run and fired a shot that was blocked and the Bridlington
players appealed for a penalty for hand ball but the referee waved play on.
Alfreton defended Bridlington's sustained efforts, though they conceded several
free kicks but Bridlington failed to take advantage and Alfreton cleared a long
ball upfield. Goddard again collected but blazed over from 25 yards out. Bridlington
were now throwing eeverything forward in search of reward but on every occasion
they were thwarted by the Alfreton defence. With the game entering stoppage
time even Bridlington keeper Kelly joined the efforts in the Alfreton box but
again chances from Jackson and Harrison went just wide and Alfreton hung on
to claim the trophy by way of the "away" goal that they scored in
the first leg at Queensgate.

Staveley 1 - 1 Bridlington Town
Att: 150est
Bridlington maintained their unbeaten league run but put in a jaded performance
at Staveley. The crowd was boosted by the expectation of Staveley latest signing
Chris Waddle playing but unfortunately he was called to other commitments. Town
were optimistic of three points given the previous meetings with Staveley earlier
in the season, and it looked on course when after just five minutes Town were
awarded a penalty following a foul on Paul Palmer. MArtin Thacker netted to
open the scoring. Bridlington were pressing down the flanks but Staveley put
in timely tackles to stop vital crosses. On the break, Staveley pushed down
the right and crossed into the centre. After a scramble Gareth Bally mis hit
a shot, the spinning ball bounced and wrong footed Kelly to trickle into the
net to level the scores on 36 minutes.
HT 1 - 1
Staveley had more fight about them in the second half, and coped better with
the bobbly pitch and swirling wind. Town saw efforts from Barrass blocked and
from substitute Richards gathered by the keeper. For Staveley Bally again had
a chance but chipped over the bar. Soon after Staveley gained a free kick which
Town failed to clear, Bally shot but Kelly in Town's goal blocked and Thomson
following up fired inches over. Manager Billy Heath introduced his subs and
changed the formation as Town pressed back but saw a diving header from Burdick
go just wide. A further chance from a Palmer header saw burdick blaze wide.
In the final ten minutes and Staveley again played the neater football and almost
punished Town from a free kick but Kelly got down well to make a great tip round
the post. Town hit back and Taylor shot from 20 yards only to see his shot graze
the bar and go over.

NCEL Wilkinson Sword Trophy Final 2nd Leg
Lincoln Moorlands 0 - 6 Bridlington Town (Agg: 0 - 10)
Att: 75est
Bridlington Town, as expected, convincingly won this final with a comprehensive
demolition of Lincoln. Leading by four goals from the first leg, Town just had
to make sure they didn't concede an early goal that could have lifted their
opponents. Town pressured from the off, causing problems for Lincoln with pace
and this resulted in a very late challenge on Burdick earning a booking for
the Lincoln culprit. Town were not going to be intimidated and soon began to
flow. Richards, Harrison and Thacker combined well before Thacker shot over
from range, and then down the right Harrison crossed for Baker who scuffed his
shot. Town opened the scoring on 23 mins. Richards worked down to the byline
and crossed in low, Lincoln half cleared twice before the ball fell to Thacker
who looped a shot from the edge of the box over the advancing keeper and into
the net. More Town chances came through Harrison, Richards and Baker with the
Lincoln keeper twice racing out of his area to clear from Richards. Town gained
reward again from the left when Burdick cut in and crossed. The keeper palmed
the ball out but Richards was on hand to follow up and net on 31 minutes. Possession
was soon regained from the kick off and continued to pressure. Harrison and
Taylor neatly worked the ball between them to feed Richards, who then deftly
rounded the keeper to slot home Town's 3rd goal on 38 mins. Lincoln briefly
attacked on the break, gaining a corner but Town defended well and resumed their
now familiar pressure. Again Lincoln could only half clear a Richards effort
but this time Burdick was on hand to slot home on 45mins. HT 0 - 4
Barrass replaced Burdick, who was feeling the effects of a first half challenge,
for the second half as Town relentlessly attacked Lincoln. More chances came
the way of Richards, Thacker, Taylor and Harrison before good work by Barrass
caused further panic in the Lincoln defence and Richards lashed home the ball
for his hattrick and Town's 5th on the hour. Hirscher replaced Harrison and
within second was in action, earning a corner. Thacker's set piece kick was
headed goalward by Harper but the ball hit Richards and rebounded to where Harper
lay on the floor. Harper, though, athletically twisted and volleyed the ball
into the top corner whilst on his back to make it 6 - 0 to Bridlington. Just
two minutes later another ball into the box saw Harper again head and Richards
flicked on only to see the ball rebound off the bar. Town again created numerous
chances, Hirscher firing over, Thacker and Barrass combining well and an intricate
run from Thacker, beating most of the Lincoln defence saw him abruptly halted
in the box but the referee waved play on despite Town's appeals for a penalty.
Taylor went on a charge to feed Barrass who saw his shot parried to Thacker
and Thacker's shot was cleared off the line. Town were still attacking when
the referee brought the game to an end with a 0 - 6 scoreline for an aggregate
0 - 10. Town had scored 28 goals in this competition whilst conceding only two
and are deserved trophy winners.

Louth Utd 0-1 Bridlington Town
Bridlington battled their way to 3 crucial points at Park Avenue in this Division
1 encounter. Town were without Craig Burdick, who picked up an injury last Wednesday,
but added Danny McIntyre to the squad. Paul Hirscher's performance last week
earned him a starting place.
Town went close on 6 minutes when Louth keeper Metheringham, spilled the ball
but scrambled it clear before Harper could capitalise.
After a brief Louth attack Town went close again with Harrison's shot deflected
inches wide. Town maintained the upper hand and saw shots from Houghton, Thacker
and Taylor just off target. Louth looked dangerous on the break and Harper,
Jackson and Lewis had to concentrate throughout the half. Hirscher, Baker and
Thacker never shirked a challenge as the trio battled to create openings. Richards
twice battled his way into the box but Louth got bodies in to block. Taylor
almost gave Town the break through just before the interval but the home keeper
clung on to keep Town at bay. Half time 0-0.
In the second half Town pressed from the off. Harper headed wide from a Thacker
free kick then Harrison had a 1 on 1 chance blocked by the keepr. Palmer was
introduced as Town pushed for the break through but Palmer couldn't get the
run of the ball. Again Louth threatened briefly with Creer and Hall linking
well but Kelly,in goal, and Town's defence kept them at bay. Thacker had a few
good moments of possesion but was frequently forced wide by the Louth defence.
Town lost concentration briefly after 68 minutes allowing Louth into the box.
A shot off the post was turned in by a home forward only to be ruled out for
offside. Town regained the impetus with Harrison doing well to get in a cross
only for Palmer to see his Volley drift wide.
Barrass was brought on with 10 minutes to go as Town searched desperately for
the break through. Eventually it came with 8 minutes remaining. Palmer spread
the ball wide to Taylor who was briefly halted. Taylor recovered to cut inside
and hit a left foot shot from 25 yards against the post but the spin on the
ball carried it along the goalline and in at the opposite corner to thee delight
of the Town faithful.
Thacker went close again with a free kick before Town ran out time in the corner
to earn a deserved 3 points.

Parkgate 0-3 Brid Town
Scorers - Martin Thacker 51, Paul Palmer 58, Phil Harrison 70.
Bridlington Town produced a great display to pick up another three points on
the road. Despite being without Burdick, Richards and Barrass Town dominated
from the off and went close to scoring on 14 minutes but Jackson's touch only
found the side netting. Palmer then created space to cross but a Parkgate defender
just got in to head away as Ingram closed in.
On 22 minutes a clash of heads between Ingram and Parkgate's Jones halted procedings
for 5 minutes. Both needed attention though the Parkgate defender left the field
on a stretcher with a nasty facial injury.Town then lost Lewis with a hamstring
strain and brought on Houghton. Town had a great chance on 36 minutes. Hirscher's
goal bound effort was just reached by the keeper, however, from Ingram's cross.
Just before the break Thacker volleyed inches wide and Taylor's 30yarder flew
just over. Half time 0-0.
In the second half Town soon got the break through. Palmer was fouled 25 yards
out. Thacker nonchalently curled the free kick into the top corner to give Town
a 51st minute lead. This gave Town the confidense to push on for more. On 59
minutes Houghton released Palmer who showed strength and pace to power past
2 defenders and finsh clinically to make it Parkgate 0-2 Bridlington Town.
Town never let their concentration and professionalism drop despite being on
the wrong end of a number of harsh decisions. Town's discipline eventually paid
off. Palmer controlled cleverly and played in Harrison to drill a shot in off
the foot of the post for his 19th goal of the season.
Parkgate rarely troubled Town's outstanding defence and only Wood and Barnfield
came anywhere near. Town almost grabbed a 4th when Hirscher's deflected shot
almost wrong footed the keeper but in the end Town were well worth the win.
Town move into 2nd place but will be eagerly watching the result of Wednesday's
Worsbrough Bridge v Lincoln Moorlands clash.

Maltby MW 0-3 Bridlington Town
Bridlington Town produced a disciplined and determined display to pick up another
3 points and keep in the hunt for promotion. Town started brightly with Phil
Harrison and Craig Burdick breaking quickly. Harrison won a free kick down the
left on 3 minutes. Martin Thacker's measured free kick was turned against the
post by Nick Houghton but Lee Harper reacted like lightening to thunder the
rebound past Manderson to give Town the lead. Another Thacker free kick looked
destined for the bottom corner but Manderson made ground to save well. At the
other end Gavin Kelly pulled off a stunning save from Cusworth to keep Town
in front. Town raised the tempo to win corners at either side but it was Maltby
who came close to leveling the scores on 35 minutes. A good cross from the left
found Haythorne at the back post only to place his header wide of the target.
Despite a number of crude challenges on Town players, The Seasiders refused
to lose their discipline and this, along with Town's skill and pace, frustrated
the home side who had four men booked in the fist half. Another free kick went
Town's way on 40 minutes. Again it was Thacker pulling the strings and his precision
ball into the box was burried into the back of the net with a header from shaun
Baker who had timed his run perfectly. Town were forced to bring on Craig Suddaby
for Nick Houghton who had done a hamstring. In the final minutes of the half
Martin Thacker got a dead leg with a knee to the thigh, but struggled through
to half time.(H/T Maltby 0-2 Town)
An early Maltby break was halted by Lee Jackson who produced another good defensive
display. Despite treatment at half time and starting the 2nd half, Martin Thacker
had to be replaced early in the second half with Paul Hirscher taking his place.
Hirscher moved left with Dave Ingram moving central. This proved effective as
both Hirscher and Ingram made vital challenges and set Phil Harrison and Paul
Palmer on breaks on a number of occasions. Burdick also got clear down the right
but Motyka recovered to block Burdicks cross.
Maltby continued to throw everything at Town and where fortunate to be given
a free kick after Jackson was harshly adjudged to have fouled. Telling curled
a free kick against Kelly's post but Town quickly cleared their lines.
Town killed the game off in the 70th minue. Hirscher's throw sent Harrison down
the left. As the ball bouced, Harrison lifted the ball into the box. Palmer
challenged, the ball came out to Baker who played in Craig Burdick. Burdick
stepped inside, his shot was deflected but Paul Palmer pounced to gather the
loose ball and finish clinically to give Town an unassailable 3-0 lead. Town
controlled more in the latter stages and played at their own pace with sensible
and disciplined football.Maltby had one last effort and the lively Cusworth
headed against the bar. Town replaced Craig Burdick with Mark Barrass late on
as Town ran down the clock to record 3 crucial points

East Riding Senior Cup Final
North Ferriby Utd 2-0 Bridlington Town
Bridlington Town can be proud of their efforts and produced a good display against
opposition two divisions above them.
Town were first on the attack and Richards found space only for his shot to
be blocked. Ferriby hit back to force a save from Kelly from a Knight drive.
Ferriby thenhad a five minute spell when they could have snatched the lead but
Kelly saved from Sherwood and Town got men behind the ball.
Town then took control and had three great chances. Richards fired inches over
after working space. Baker put Thacker in and Sharp just managed to tip thacker's
shot away and Harrison forced another save from Sharp as Town upped the pace.
Ferriby looked to have got clear on 40 minutes but Harper got back brilliantly
to make a vital tackle.
Burdick then had a race with the keeper who blocked Burdick's effort. The ball
broke to Baker who tried to chip the stranded defenders only to miss the target.
Ferriby had the last chance of the half but Kelly saved bravely at the feet
of Botham. Half time 0-0.
Ferriby were first to show in the 2nd half but Powell headed well wide. Then
came the turning point of the game. Burdick outpaced the Ferriby defence. The
ball was cut back for Inrem, who had timed his run perfectly only to side foot
over the bar from 8 yards with Sharp no where.
Tow minutes later Ferriby took the lead. Farley was given time and space to
cut in from the left and his seemingly tame 25 yard effort somehow squirmed
it's way under Kelly to put the holders in front on 52 minutes. This encouraged
Ferriby to spread the ball more slickly to force Town onto the back foot. Jackson
and Harper battled manfully to keep Powell and Knight at bay but on 1one occasion
Jackson slipped allowing Perrin in only for the Ferriby midfielder to shoot
wide.
Town rallied with Thacker slipping Baker in but his 61st minute shot flew wide.
Town attacked again but as the move broke down, Ferriby broke quickly and effectively
gave Town a mountain to climb. Perrin was picked out in space down the left
and he worked space to pick out Powell at the far post to beat Town's defence
to the ball and slip his shot into the net from close range. Town brough on
Barrass and then Suddaby as they refused to throw in the towell. Burdick and
Taylor both had good runs but couldn't get the breakthough. Knight and Powell
were finding more space for Ferriby as Town tried to pull a goal back, until
Knight was caught late by Kelly and had to be replaced. Town introduced Hirscher
and again Town found openings. Barrass' effort could have brought a goal but
the ball span away from Richards. Then Richards shot on the turn forced another
save from Sharp. A run from Farley was halted by Baker giving Ferriby a dangerous
free kick but Dewhirst's free kick was well off target.
Town battled to the end but it was Ferriby's night as Town were left to reflect
on what might have been had they taken their chances.

BRIDLINGTON Town turned in their best away performance of the season to demolish Pontefract and seal promotion with an outstanding display in front of their ranks of travelling fans. From the off there was only going to be one winner and despite the heavy rain it was Town who took an early lead. A slick move picked out Dave Ingram in the box who drilled his shot passed the keeper to give Town a 7th minute lead. Town relaxed and after going close on three or four occasions Paul Palmer was brought down in the box on 20 minutes to give Town a penalty. Martin Thacker despatched the kick with a sublime piece of craft that would not have gone amiss in the pro game. Town were forced to bring on Mark Barrass for the injured Craig Burdick but not before Burdick tested the home defence with an inspired run. It was one way traffic and Town's dominance was capped by a third goal on 41 minutes. Following a foul on Paul Palmer, Thacker's free kick was drilled towards goal by Lee Harper allowing Lee Jackson to get the final touch past the keeper to make it 0-3 to Town at the break. Town controlled the second half and it was only a mater of time before the lead was extended. Quality moves dissected the Pontefract rearguard who escaped further punishment thanks to the wood work following a delightful Thacker free kick that cannoned off the bar on 60 minutes. Billy Heath brought on Paul Hirscher for Ingram and Hirscher continued the good work Ingram had already produced. Inevitably the breakthrough for the fourth goal came and it was Thacker who capped a poetic five man move to coolly finish 9 minutes from time. By this time, Town's supporters, who out numbered the home fans 3 to 1 were on their feet and applauding what continued to be a virtually faultless display. Jackson and Harper showed again that they are the best defensive pairing in the league and this was respected by the applause of the crowd. The game was capped by a fine piece of opportunism by Palmer whose deft lob claimed Town's 5th a minute from time to wrap up promotion and a thoroughly outstanding season for Bridlington Town.
Celebrations carried on late into the night and congratulations go to all that have contributed both on and off the field.
