Bridlington
Town welcomed new sponsors Victor Gladwish and Angie Patel of Gladwish Land
Sales & GLS Football.com to the game that also saw the return of Kevin Smith
to the Town line up. Bridlington left it late with two goals in the last ten
minutes securing a much needed win and three points.
Bridlington’s
first real effort came on 4 mins when Thacker lifted the ball over the top and
Harrison tried a volley but fired over. In the 9th minute a neat move
down the left saw the ball in to Bridlington’s Kevin Smith and his effort from
the edge of the box hit the bar. Chorley responded with an attack down the right
and Ashcrofts shot had to be saved
by Hill. The pace of the game increased with an attack down the right from
Burdick but Chorley cleared and attacked seeing Butterworth blaze well over. A
long kick from Hill almost saw Harrison in but Chorley’s defence somehow
managed to get back to clear. Chorley broke through with Queely but Underwood
for Town was cool with his clearance. Midway through the first half the watching
crowd was mystified when Thacker appeared to be fouled but the referee awarded
the kick to Chorley. Another chance fell to Harrison from a Smith flick on but
Harrison couldn’t keep his shot down. Another chance from Smith’s flick on,
this time Harrison was on target but his tame shot was straight at Bracey.
Chorley came back at Town and forced a corner. Bridlington cleared up field but
were thwarted in their attack. Chorley pressed forward with neat interplay to
force Robinson to concede a corner, then a deflection gave another. Bridlington
regained possession and attacked, only to lose the ball to an interception, but
regain it from a free kick. From the kick Burdick could only turn the ball past
the outside of the post. As play swung to the other end, a Chorley corner saw
Danny Mills head against the top of the bar on 43 mins. HT 0 – 0
A frantic start to the second half saw chances for both sides but neither clear cut. Smith and Harrison were combining well up front for Bridlington and this combination looked most likely to make an effect. A foul on Craig Burdick saw Bridlington reduced to ten men whilst he received treatment but Bridlington still attacked with Harrison drawing a free kick just outside the box, but Chorley cleared the danger. Another Bridlington attack saw Burdick cross but Bracey in the Chorley goal just beat Harrison to the ball. Burdick was replaced by Lewis and Bridlington went on the attack with a great run from Thompson feeding Smith but his shot was blocked for a corner. Another ball through saw Smith on the charge and he looked to have been pulled back but the referee played on. Chorley had a spell of pressure after the hour mark but Bridlington held them at bay. Bridlington went forward looking for an opening but none came and Chorley’s next forays were halted by the flag. Harrison was fouled 30 yards out and Thacker took the free kick but only found Bracey as the game went into the last ¼ hour. Bridlington pressed again and crossed the ball in from the right. Ingram got a touch before Wayne Lewis crept in at the back post and managed to get a touch through the Chorley defence and the ball bundled into the net to open the scoring on 81 mins. Smith and Thacker combined down the left and the crossed ball drifted just past the far post. Bridlington went in search of a second and gained a corner. Thacker stroked the ball in, Lewis challenged and the ball dropped kindly for Harrison to slot home for the second goal on 87mins. In stoppage time an attempted Chorley clearance saw Smith gather and try a shot that flashed just past the post.
