The
miserable weather conspired to make Towns lowest crowd so far but two first half
goals were enough for the points as Guiseley staged a spirited fight back in the
second half, but the final score was a reversal of the first league meeting
earlier in the season.
In
the first half Town worked down the right with Ingram and Palmer winning a throw
in the corner but gained nothing further. Guiseley broke and David Henry got
round Craig Suddaby but his cross was poor and Andy Thompson cleared. Guiseley
were then awarded a free kick on the left but couldn’t capitalise and the ball
went for a goal kick. Town moved the ball down the right and Paul Palmer looked
to slot in Drayton. The Guiseley defender marking him slipped, Drayton gathered
and squared the ball for Paul Farley to side foot home on 8 minutes. Guiseley
pressed in search of an equaliser but Bridlington held firm. David Henry again
got into the box and managed to get a shot in and David Cooke managed a toe
before Town cleared for a corner. Henry again got a shot in on the quarter hour
but Kelly blocked well with his legs and the ball back in found Guiseley
offside. As Town played forward Palmer was fouled. Martin Thacker lifted the
ball in and Paul Palmer lost his marker superbly to get to the ball and glance
it into the net for Bridlington’s second on 19 minutes. A long ball over the
top from Guiseley found Scott Jackson but he was well marshalled by Heath and
pulled his shot across the goal. A free kick for Guiseley on the left touch line
came to nothing and Town pressed forward but lost possession. Around the half
hour Guiseley worked hard to close Town down but couldn’t find a way through
and the home side worked back up the right. Thompson crossed, Drayton nudged the
ball to Palmer but His effort was blocked for a corner, though Farleys kick
curled behind. Guisely played some neat football and laid the ball to Peter
Atkinson who shot from distance brought a great save from Kelly on 40 minutes.
Town broke with Drayton showing a clean pair of heels. He crossed for Farley but
this time his shot was straight at Lamb. Guiseley then broke and Jackson shot
but Kelly again saved. Kelly was called into action again, racing out to clear
but he needed treatment after his ankle was clipped by the Guiseley striker. HT

Bridlington
had an early chance from a free kick in the second half. Thacker swung the ball
in and Palmer just failed to connect and Guiseley cleared. Guiseley had a period
of better possession but couldn’t breach
the home defence. Henry won a corner as the hour approached but again Town
cleared and set Drayton and Palmer away but they were halted by the linesmans
flag. Henry did well to get a cross in for Guiseley but Kelly gathered easily.
Farley went on a run but was brought down. Guiseley cleared the free kick.
Drayton did well to hold off Parke but was then out of position to make further
inroads. Palmer was then slotted through but once again the flag stopped him.
Drayton again got free but Parke was with him all the way and Drayton shot was
weak. A deep ball from Guiseley into the home box saw Thompson head behind to
concede a corner. From this Parke headed just over on 77 mins. Guiseley
broke with Illingworth getting a shot in but once more Thompson defended
well. Guiseley attacked and Airdrie put the ball into the danger area. Heath
only partially cleared and Shuttleworth collected but fired across and wide.
Guiseley’s pressure gained them another corner off Baker and this time Parke
evaded his marker to head home for the visitors. In search of an equaliser
Sumner charged into Town’s half but fired wide from distance with two minutes
remaining. Guiseley intercepted in midfield and Shuttleworth raced forward to
cross forcing Town to clear for a corner. Another corner follwed as the game
went into stoppage time. Town cleared and with Lamb out of his goal looked to
get forward but the ball spun out. An innocuous challenge gave Guiseley a free
kick in Town’s half but the kick was blazed over.
