A
dramatic stoppage time equaliser for the visitors sent this game to a replay
after the home side had led twice in the first half. Town had led through a
Craig Burdick strike before Smithard levelled. Paul Palmer gave Bridlington the
lead on the stroke of half time before Midwood sent the home crowd home
deflated.
Farsley
came close with just three minutes on the watch when Stammer found space and
Bridlington keeper Kelly saved with his legs. Bridlington worked the left, Paul
Farley crossed after good work from Palmer and Ashley Brewer had to head behind
for a corner. Farsley attacked and were awarded a dubious corner which
eventually found its way to Kelly. Farsley continued to pressure and again
Stammer found space for a shot but again Kelly saved with his legs on ten
minutes. On the quarter hour as Town had a throw on the left the ball was half
cleared and a fierce shot from Andy Taylor was tipped over by Tom Morgan. From
the corner another powerful drive in from Ingram had the home side appealing for
a penalty but Referee Smith waved play on. Town regathered and Burdick burst
through to slot home past Morgan to give the home side the lead on 16 minutes.
After another Bridlington attack Farsley broke and Stammer won a corner off
Harper. From the corner Midwood was fouled but Farsley failed to capitalise from
the free kick. Palmer and Drayton combined on the right, Burdick lifted the ball
in for Farley who was unmarked in the box but his control let him down on this
occasion. Farsley continued to threaten with Stammer the danger man down the
left. Burdick for Bridlington tried to get clear but was foiled. Then Farsley
had a quick throw down the left, Smithard got free and tore into the home box to
fire past Kelly to level matters on 33 minutes. Town looked to push forward and
neat play set Burdick through but Farsley handled to stop things before
regaining possession from the free kick. Bridlington pressed and Farley was
fouled. Farsley cleared the initial kick before Steve Robinson slotted the ball
through for Farley but he fired wide. Farsely broke and Bridlington were then
caught in possession but Smithard fired wide. A long ball from Steve Heath was
flicked on by Palmer. Danny Drayton saw his shot deflected for a corner. Morgan
had to punch clear but the ball came back in and Paul Palmer turned on a
sixpence to fire home on the stroke of half time to give the home side the lead
again. HT 2 – 1
Stammer
for Farsley cut in from the left to cross early in the half and Paul Farley
cleared for a corner then Town cleared their lines. Thacker won a midfield
battle to feed Palmer but Palmers cross was straight at Morgan. Town worked the
ball across field and enventually into the box to where Palmer laid the ball
back for Thacker who shot inches wide. Danny Drayton was then put through by
Palmer and he too fired just inches wide on 50 minutes. Play was halted briefly
whilst Burdick received treatment after landing awkwardly. Steve Ball for
Farsley crossed from the left and Town had to clear for a corner. Kelly then
held the second ball in. More good work from Farsley found Smithard in space on
the left and Taylor had to clear for a corner. Palmer had pressed down the left
for Bridlington but Farsley cleared and Smithard was fouled just outside the
home area. Midwood took the kick but Kelly held easily. Burdick played Drayton
through but Farsley cleared to break down their right with Smithard but he fired
wide on the hour. Farsley pressured in search of a second equaliser but the home
defence held firm as the game entered the last twenty minutes. Town went up
field and won successive corners but gained no reward. Play was halted again
with ten minutes remaining when Heath was fouled by Copley who was spoken to by
the referee. With time running out Farsley searched for an equaliser and were
awarded a free kick on the right. The deep ball in went behind to the relief of
the home side. Farsley attacked again and Copley won a corner on the right as
the game went into stoppage time. Gavin Kelly comfortably held the ball from the
kick and set Town forward again. Town pushed on and won a throw deep on the
right but the ball then went behind and despite the assistant referee indicating
a corner the referee, some fifty yards away, awarded a goal kick. . Farsley
poured forward, Town failed to clear their defence and Midwood hit an overhead
kick past Kelly to level the scores three minutes into stoppage time. Town went
looking for the winner and had a free kick on the left but Farsley cleared. Even
with a further four minutes of time added on there was no further scoring so a
replay will be next Tuesday.
