Unibond Division One

Kendal Town 1(1)(Hayton 13)

Bridlington Town 0(0)

Att: 131

Referee: J.A.Hay

It was another fruitless away trip for Bridlington Town with Kendal grabbing the only goal of the game in the first quarter.

Early pressure from Kendal had Bridlington somewhat on the back foot but a long ball saw Burdick, Thompson and Taylor combine before Burdick saw a header go wide. From the goal kick Kendal broke forward and earned a corner. This was lifted in and Hayton rose above the defence to head the ball home after thirteen minutes. Kendal came close again soon after when a long range lob from Shepherd grazed the Bridlington bar. More Kendal pressure had to be dealt with until just before the half hour Palmer got forward and a shot on the turn had the sting taken off it with a deflection that ran to the keeper. A free kick after a foul on Palmer gave Bridlington another chance but Palmer's effort went over the bar from 25 yards. As half time approached another free kick for Bridlington was lifted in and Harper fired a shot in from the back post, giving rise to a hand ball appeal that was turned down and a corner given. From this Heath headed over. Bridlington's best chance of the half followed. A good through ball found Burdick and he fed Thompson. One on one with the keeper, Thompson pulled his shot wide of the mark. HT 1 - 0

Bridlington brought on Striker Harrison to replace defender Suddaby for the second half and began to pound the home side into their own box. Heath headed over from a corner, Palmer lobbed over the bar, had another shot blocked on the line by Kendal keeper Ward before Taylor's shot on the turn went inches wide. On the break Kendal striker Foster got clear but a great save from Chris Hill and tackle from Steve Robinson saw Bridlington on the attack again. Once more Palmer saw a shot blocked for a corner and from this Burdick saw his effort parried as Kendal somehow scrambled the ball away for another corner that saw Burdick head just wide. With fifteen minutes left Kendal had another break and Shepherd drilled the ball in but to no reward. Bridlington attacked once more and Baldwin hit a rasping 25 yard shot that saw Ward just manage to fingertip over the bar. From the corner KEndal once more managed to scramble the ball clear. Town's next effort came from Palmer and his attmpted overhead kick went just over. Palmer again had a good shot blocked and Bridlington forced consecutive corners but the Kendal goal still led a charmed life and time ran out for Bridlington. FT 1 - 0
