Bradford Park Avenue  (0)()

After early Town pressure, Bradford broke forward and the ball spun free to Bradford’s Jason Maxwell inside the box but he fired wide inside three minutes. Further Bradford pressure from a free kick saw Maxwell injured in a clash of heads on 5 mins, and Bridlington’s Steve Heath receiving treatment off the pitch. Craig Suddaby replaced Heath who was attended by the doctor for stitches in a head wound. Bradford attacked with play switched to the left for Andy Wright to earn the visitors a corner but Town cleared and attacked down the right through Kev Smith. Bradford used their experience to press forward but a quick break from Town saw the ball in to Smith on the edge of the box. He turned and laid the ball for Farley who’s shot was goal bound and forced Jones to tip the ball onto the bar on 20 mins. Encouraged by their efforts the home side worked well but met resilient defence. Palmer, Smith and Thompson combined but Mick Jones dealt well with the cross. On the half hour Bridlingtn were awarded a free kick 25 yards out. Thacker’s kick hit the wall and Jones collected easily. As Town attacked again Burdick fed Smith and his shot rebounded off Jones but no-one was following in. Town’s Burdick collect in the middle and pressed forward. Town’s strikers tried to work an openeing but Smith had to lay the ball out left to Farley. Farley crossed to the back post where Paul Palmer met the ball to head home off the inside of the post to give the home side the lead on 36 mins. 1 – 0.  THE Seasiders went looking for another and Bradford needed all hands to the pumps to thwart the attack. Maxwell and Walsh worked the right for Bradford but couldn’t penetrate further and the half ended. 1 – 0.

Town pressured from the off. Thompson played the ball in, Palmer flicked on and Burdick fored Jones to deflect for a corner on 47. Just a minute later a Burdick cross found Farley at the far post and his volley went just wide. Town’s next attack saw Smith volley straight at Jones. A superb through ball from Thacker found Burdick and Jones had to parry and the follow up saw Jones again put the ball behind for a corner as the Seasiders piled on the pressure. Bradford finally cleared their lines and attacked, earning a corner, but Town cleared and went up field again. A trip on Burdick gave Bridlington a free kick on the right of the Bradford box on 55 mins. The initial kick was cleared and then Thompson fired wide. A rare break for Bradford almost saw them through as Harper stumbled but his team mates covered well and set Town forward again. Steve Heath returned to the field with a bandaged head, in place of Harper and Houghton replaced Robinson for the home side on the hour. Mid way through the second half Bradford began to make inroads to Town’s half as the home side introduced replacements. With eight changes made the home side forced a corner from a free kick. The ball came to the back post to Baldwin and his shot saw a second corner on 70 mins. Bradford seemed short of ideas as Bridlington, with all eleven players changed, continued to have the upper hand. On 77 mins Harrison thought he had extended Town’s lead but was flagged offside from a Drayton through ball. The lead was increased a minute later. This time Drayton was on the end of the through ball and he confidently beat Jones from 15 yards to lob into the net. 2 – 0 on 78 mins. In the 81st minute Drayton was almost in again but Jones blocked with his legs and Baldwin fired over from 6 yards. In the last minute of normal time Bradford had the ball in Town’s area but replacement keeper Wardale punched clear. The game ended with Town on the attack.
