Town
recorded their second home win of the season and scored three goals again.
Early
pressure from Town forced Farsley Keeper Morgan to turn the ball for a corner
but the home side couldn’t benefit. On five minutes a heavey challenge from
Farsley’s Brown on Burdick earned a booking. Thacker took the free kick and
Paul Palmer got in front of the defence to head home and give Bridlington the
lead on 6 minutes. Town attacked again down the left and the ball in again found
Palmer but his shot was parried for a corner. Farsley gained possession and
worked the right flank before crossing, though an infringement gave possession
back to the home side. Farsley soon attacked again, Wes Freeman showing neat
skill to feed Mick Midwood but Farley was alert enough to clear. A quick free
kick from Farsley found Matt Smithard and his first time shot went wide. More
Farsley possession came but they couldn’t penetrate the home defence and
Damian Place tried a shot from distance to no avail. A ball from the home
defence was flicked on by Drayton for Baldwin, Baldwin twisted and turned to
make space but his shot was straight at Morgan. More Farsley pressure gave
Midwood a shooting chance but he blazed wide. For the home side, Burdick cut in
from the right to cross, but the ball bounced awkwardly in the box and Farsley
cleared on the half hour. The clearance almost let in Farsley’s Matt Smithard
but the ball ran away from him. Farsley were having the better of the midfield
battle with Shields, Stabb and Iqbal working well together but the final ball
was often poor. Town attacked and a neat head on from Burdick found Drayton who
earned a throw in though no further benefit came. Farsley gained a free kick on
the left and it was lifted in by Austin but Midwood’s flick header went wide
on 40 mins. Bridlington worked forward and it took three Farsley defenders to
take the ball off him for a corner but Farsley cleared. Farsley pressured for
the last couple of minutes of the half but gained no reward. HT 1 – 0
Danny
Drayton had a chance for Bridlington early in the second half but fired wide.
Town kept the pressure up and
gained a free kick on the right. Thacker again fired the ball in and Stuart
Baldwin sneaked in to head home under challenge from Morgan to make it 2 – 0
on 52 mins. Bridlington were straight back on the attack and again a ball in
from the right gained reward, this time Danny Drayton was on the end to head
home on 54 mins to make it 3 – 0. On 58 minutes Paul Palmer charged down a
Morgan clearance and the ball rebounded just wide of the post. On the hour
Drayton beat the offside trap to get through on the left. He crossed, Burdick
dummied and Palmer, with the goal at his mercy, rushed his shot and fired tamely
at Morgan. Farsley attacked down the right and Mick Midwood won a corner off
Baker. The ball came right across to Substitute Blackstone and his cross in was
turned behind by Harper for another corner but Town cleared. Blackstone then had
another effort from the right but fired wide. Pressure from Farsley from a free
kick was soon turned into attack by Bridlington but Harrison couldn’t collect
and Morgan gathered. He launched the ball forward and Harper was penalised for a
challenge on Midwood. He took the free kick himself from 25 yards and skimmed
the crossbar with his shot. Damian Place missed a clearance kick and Paul Palmer
got in on the left before being fouled but Farsley cleared and attacked. A free
kick just over half way was struck by Place but Shields sliced his shot. Inside
the last five mins and Ingram played Burdick through but he was caught offside.
Another free kick for Farsley as the game approached added time was struck by
Michael Midwood. He stroked the ball and although Kelly got his hand to the ball
he couldnlt keep it out and Farsley grabbed a consolation to make it 3 – 1 at
the death.
