Unibond Div One
Colwyn Bay 1(0)(Heathcote 57)
Bridlington Town 1(1)(Heath 21)
Att: 274
Referee:W.Smallwood

Bridlington Town travelled to North Wales, secure in the knowledge that they
had already secured enough points for "promotion" to the Unibond Premier
Division next season, and that they were also now established as the number
one non-league football club in the East Riding.
Taking the field in a relaxed mood, Town had created several chances with
Stuart Baldwin just missing a glancing header, Phil Harrison and Steve
Underwood having shots blocked and then Paul Palmer's efforts earning the
corner and then making the lay off from which Town scored. The corner kick
was only half cleared by the Colwyn defence, Paul Palmer headed the ball
down into the path of Steve Heath and he slammed a half volley past Colwyn
keeper Parry from inside of the box on 21 mins. More Town pressure went
unrewared and also a strong penalty appeal was rejected after Phil Harrison
appeared to have been tugged back.
Colwyn Bay upped their tempo for the second half and enjoyed the better of
the exchanges, with former Town player Paul Wilson getting in a number of
crosses from the left and from one of these Bay drew level. Wilson crossed
to the back post and the experienced Steve Heathcote headed home to level
matters just before the hour. Bouyed by their benefit, Colwyn continued to
pressure but Town's defence and in particular some brave saves from Nick
Baxter in the Town goal kept the scores level before Town created further
chances for themselves. Steve Underwood saw a goalbound effort just
deflected for a corner, Paul Palmer and Phil Harrison had shots saved and
Martin Thacker saw a free kick curl just over the bar.
Town were happy with the point that meant not only had they achieved the
status of the leading non-league side in the East Riding, but that they
finished in the top half of the table in their first season and finished
above the other promoted side from last year, Prescot Cables.
Credit must go to all the players, management and backroom staff at the club
for their achievements over recent years and anyone who feels they can help
with advertising, sponsorship, investment or otherwise of the senior
non-league club in the East Riding should get in touch.
