Chorley 1(1)(Mills 19)
Bridlington Town 1(0)(Thompson 90)
Att: 232
Referee: B.Tatton
Bridlington Town grabbed a dramatic stoppage time equaliser through Andy Thompson to give them a fully deserved point.
After an even start Chorley were the first to create an opening when Stuart Tulloch broke down the left but Town cleared. On 8 mins Martin Thacker played in Paul Palmer for Bridlington who shot wide whilst a minute later Chorley’s Jamie Bates sliced a shot well wide. Both sides had further chances before Chorley opened the scoring in the 19th minute. A cross from the right flicked off Town defender Steve Heaths head and fell to Stuart Tulloch. Tulloch’s first time ball across the face of the goal was met by Danny Mills who forced the ball home from close range. Town pressed hard for the equaliser with Burdick, Harris and Palmer all having chances but Chorley held on unitl the break. HT 1 – 0
In the second half Chorley were first to show with Tulloch again looking dangerous and the home side should have extended their lead when Danny Mills headed wide from 6 yards. On 52 mins Town broke clear through Paul Palmer but his powerful drive was parried away by Chorley ‘keeper Bracey. Town piled on the pressure on the hour mark and kept the home keeper very busy and the visitors were unfortunate not to be awarded a penalty when Andy Thompson’s shot appeared to be blocked by a hand on 65 mins. Billy Heath replaced Harris with Drayton and Town continued to search for the equaliser. A Paul Farley ball in was headed over by Lee Harper with fifteen minutes to go as Town took the upper hand. In the 81st min a Paul Farley throw was flicked on to Craig Burdick who headed against the bar but Chorley scrambled the ball clear. Town continued to press and in stoppage time a ball over the top caused a mix up in the Chorley defence and Andy Thompson latched onto the loose ball and fired home to level the scores with virtually the last kick of the game. FT 1 – 1 A thoroughly deserved point for Town in a good display that could easily have been rewarded with three points on another day.
