Kendal Town                                        1 (1)(Cliff 16 pen,)

Att: 201

Referee: B.Furnandiz – Doncaster

A tremendous team effort from Bridlington Town, down to ten men after just 15 minutes, saw them brush aside their Lakeland visitors. Stuart Baldwin opened the scoring before Bridlington were reduced to ten men after Thompson was judged to have handled on the line. Cliff netted the penalty but Phil Harrison took advantage of defensive lapses by the visitors to grab a first half hattrick before Craig Burdick wrapped things up in stoppage time.

A quick moving attack with Burdick, Harrison and Baldwin earned a corner for the home side but Kendal cleared and broke forwards. Bridlington attacked again and the ball came free to Burdick but arrived too quickly for him to control and Kendal keeper Ward gathered. Prosser put a ball over the top of the home defence and Dixon then fired over from distance. On ten minutes Thompson crossed from the right and Baldwin headed goalward but straight at Ward. Baldwin soon made amends. Drayton slotted Baker through and he laid the ball into the path of Baldwin who rifled the ball home on 12 minutes. Kendal then attacked and caused a scramble resulting in Kelly tipping round for a corner. From this Kelly looked to have been fouled but the referee judged that Thompson handled on the line and dismissed him and gave Kendal a penalty. Stuart Cliff slotted home on 16 minutes to bring the visitors level. Kendal looked to take the man advantage and Whittaker got through but fired wide. On 20 minutes Whittaker got through again but fired off target once more.  In an effort to stabilise the defence Bridlington replaced goal scorer Baldwin with Taylor after just 25 mins. Bridlington pushed up and a mix up between Garner and Kendal keeper Ward let in Phil Harrison to walk the ball into the empty net to restore the home sides lead on 28 minutes. Just two minutes later a deep ball in from the right saw Kendal keeper Ward mis punch and Harrison was on hand again to volley home to make it three to the home side on the half hour. The ten man Bridlington pressured again and Thacker made space for a shot but this time Ward gathered cleanly. Kendal attacked and Whittaker saw his shot well saved by Kelly. Kendal worked the ball neatly round Bridlington’s area before crossing in but Kelly was fouled before Whittaker netted and a free kick was given. For Bridlington, a flick on from Drayton fell to Burdick who drew a good save from Ward. Bridlington attacked again, this time down the left. The cross from Farley was missed by the visiting defence but met by Harrison who fired home for his hattrick on the stroke of halftime.

Kendal had a spell of early pressure in the second half before Dixon pulled the ball wide. Bridlington’s Harrison and Drayton combined to create a chance for Burdick but he fired wide under pressure. Prosser for Kendal made a great run down the left but a superb tackle from Suddaby cleared the danger. Kendal threatened again from a corner, then a second, before Bridlington cleared. More attacking from Kendal gave them several more corners but they didn’t capitalise. Bridlington worked the right flank before a shot from Baker blazed past the post on 67 mins. A flick on from Kendal’s Whittaker found Garner and his shot saw Kelly palm the ball over. Bridlington attacked and Burdick fed Drayton but he volleyed over from inside the box. Kendal were awarded a free kick on the right of the home area but it was soon cleared to set Bridlington forward, with a neat ball from Harrison finding Burdick but he couldn’t find another team mate. Bridlington then worked the left flank but Farley’s cross couldn’t find lone striker Palmer. More good work from Farley down the left then saw a disappointing cross that went behind. Whittaker for Kendal found space for a shot on 81 mins but Kelly smothered the effort well. With five minutes left Baker lifted the ball in for Palmer to head but the ball went just over the bar. Bridlington attacked and Ingram got the overlap to feed Palmer but Ward blocked inside the six yard box on 87 mins. Kendal pushed forward in search of consolation but Pennington lost control and the ball went dead. In stoppage time Craig Burdick beat the offside trap to tear through and lift the ball over Ward to make it five for Bridlington. Kendal attacked and Whittaker drew another fine save from Kelly but that was the last effort.
