Unibond Div 1
Guiseley 2(0) (Stuart 65 pen, 80)
Bridlington Town 1 (0) (Burdick 49)
Referee: R.Holdsworth
Town tasted their first Unibond defeat but will consider themselves unlucky to lose out to a retaken penalty and a “lucky” loop.
The home side took the game to the visitors with Henry showing well before Bridlington created a chance for Harris but his lob went just over. Bridlington came into the game more and saw Drayton and Burdick go close before Guiseley pressured back. Play swung both ways but Guiseley showed more craft against the more direct approach of the visitors. There were few clear cut chances but Guiseley went close late in the half when Stuart headed just wide. HT 0 – 0
Billy Heath’s half time talked worked and Bridlington pressed forward. A free kick on the right from Thacker was flicked on by Harper and Burdick slotted in off the post on 49 mins to give the visitors the lead. More pressure from Town over the next quarter hour failed to produce reward and Guiseley broke with some neat football, switching play before the ball reached Illingworth who was felled in the box by Farley for a penalty. Stuart hit the kick but Kelly saved, only for the referee to order a retake which Stuart made no mistake from to level on 65 mins. Town looked to get back in front with Burdick surging but Guiseley regained possession. It was now the home side creating the pressure and on 80 mins Dunn cut into the box from the left. He fed Stuart who scuffed his shot but it looped up and over Kelly and the Bridlignton defender on the line couldn’t keep the ball out. 2 – 1. Guiseley then looked to the corners to run down time but a free kick for Town on the half way line saw everyone forward but Kelly who took the kick, only to see Thompsons header saved by Lamb in the last action of the game.
