Unibond Div 1

Belper Town 0(0)(Gummer missed pen 49)

Bridlington Town 2(0)(Thompson 64, Palmer 67)

Att:218

Referee: A.Clyde Doncaster

Bridlington Town made it five straight wins thanks to two individual pieces of skill. The first came from Martin Thacker whi skipped past two defenders to cross for Thompson to fire home the visitors first goal, the second was a sweet turn and shot from Paul Palmer for the second goal.

Early pressure from Belper from the off was returned by Bridlington with Kevin Smith and Paul Palmer both going close before the game settled into a fairly non-descript affair. Neither side could really get their foot on the ball and chances were few and far between, though Belper perhaps had the better of the possession but the deadlock remained to half time.

Belper attacked from the off in the second half and were awarded a penalty when Roberts went over in the box. Bridlington's defenders were vociferous in their protests as Roberts had appeared to fall over himself. Sean Gummer struck the kick against the post and the visitors cleared. With the introduction of two substitutes Bridlington began to play a little more freely with Paul Farley getting down the left on several occasions. From one of these runs Martin Thacker picked up the ball from a defenders block, waltzed round two Belpers defenders to get to the byline and cross. Craig Burdick only managed a glance but Andy Thompson was following up at the back post to power the ball into the roof of the net to give the visitors the lead on 64 minutes. Soon after the restart Bridlington regained possession and sent Burdick away down the right. He played a perfectly weighted ball into the feet of Paul Palmer. Palmer made the sweetest of turns to beat his marker and hit a first time shot past Ingham to make it 2 - 0 to Bridlington on 67 mins. Belper still tried to get something from the game with Evans and Roberts looking dangerous but the hard working visiting defenders cancelled any threat as Bridlington took the points.
