This much awaited local derby saw Town’s biggest crowd of the season so far, and their biggest since the return to pyramid football five seasons ago.  A typical local derby that had everything saw the honours shared but no doubt Ferriby will be more pleased with the point. A controversial second yellow card for Craig Burdick late on may yet be rescinded after the referee consulted his assistants after the game. Town had taken the lead mid way through the first half but Ferriby bhit back with two early in the second, before Town levelled on the hour.

A frantic opening pace saw both teams probing each others defence. Stuart Baldwin saw his early shot deflected for a corner but the kick then evaded all to go behind. Paul Palmer tried to work in from the right but Chris Gowen was on hand to clear for Ferriby. Danny Drayton then neatly flicked on to keep up the pressure but a goal kick resulted. On ten minutes a deep free kick by Andy Taylor on the half way line was headed back across the area by Lee Harper. Paul Palmer shot but straight at Ferriby keeper Paul Sharp. Town had a throw down the right. Craig Burdick collected and cut in to fire a narrow shot that Sharp had to palm away. Ferriby then had a spell working down the right before the home defence came away with the ball. Paul Palmer broke down the right and crossed. Craig Burdick tried to guide his header but was off target. Burdick set off at pace but was tripped to give the home side a free kick. Thacker’s ball in saw Harper’s header tipped onto the bar by Sharp. Drayton headed the rebound but Sharp managed to tip away again on 16 mins. Ferriby countered and Jamie Richards won a corner but nothing further. Ferriby pressed again but with little success and Carl Wood resorted to blazing well over from 20 yards out. Palmer chased down the left and was fouled by Foot. Thacker took the kick and Lee Harper met the ball at the near post with a glancing header to give Bridlington the lead on 24 minutes. Town pressed again and Ferriby had to scramble a Palmer effort off the line with Gowen the saviour. On 29 minutes Paul Palmer turned his man on the right edge of the box but was chopped down by Ferriby captain Fisher. Paul Farley took the kick and Sharp had to punch away. A long ball on the break found Fothergill and he made space for a shot but it was deflected for a corner, but the home defence cleared. A long goal kick from Sharp was flicked on for Wainman and he earned a corner on the right. The kick to the back post was headed goalward by Fisher but Kelly managed to tip over to keep the lead intact. With five minutes of the half remaining Ferriby broke and were three on two but Richards badly hit his ball in and Kelly gathered easily. HT 1 – 0

Ferriby hit Town straight away in the second half. A quick ball in from the left found Fothergill and he turned and shot past Kelly to level the scores. Ferriby attacked again and were awarded a free kick on the edge of the home box. Jamie Richards struck the ball over the top and beat Kelly to give Ferriby the lead on 48 minutes. Town looked to hit back and pressure from Drayton and Palmer won a corner on 54 mins. Billy Heath introduced two substitutes as Town looked to get back on terms. Burdick fed Paul Palmer down the right and put in an inch perfect cross for Substitute Kevin Smith to power home a header to level matters on the hour. On 69 mins after an accidental foul, Ferriby had a free 30 yards out. Perrin hit the kick well wide. With 17 minutes remaining Burdick chased the ball into the corner, gained possession and crossed for Smith but he headed just over.  Town pressed again and Thacker was fouled. He took the free himself and the ball went for a corner. Another Town attack was halted with a foul on the right. Ferriby cleared and broke with pace but a cushioned header from Taylor got the ball to Kelly. Passions almost boiled over with ten minutes remaining but referee Greenwood calmed matters and restarted with a drop ball on the halfway line. Smith intercepted and laid the ball out left to Palmer. Palmer crossed and Smith headed just wide. With five minutes left Town were reduced to ten men when Burdick received a second yellow card. In the last minute a deep ball forward for Town found Smith. Sharp came out of his area and felled Smith but was only booked for the challenge. Thacker curled his free kick but the ball dipped just over the bar. The final whistle went for a point each.
