Bridlington’s miserable luck continued tonight. The first half promised much with a half time lead but an injury to the goal keeper, a sending off, many first half chances missed and numerous bookings for both sides delayed the game. The game saw a late finish with an ambulance having to attend to take Bridlington keeper Gavin Kelly to hospital with a neck injury.

A pacy start saw both sides probing forward but no chances were created. A long ball from Kelly found Palmer and he was fouled on the edge of the box. Martin Thacker lashed home the 20 yard free kick to open the scoring for the home side on 9 mins. Bridlington regained possession from the restart and Andy Taylor played in Andy Thompson but his effort hit the side netting. Ossett attacked and from a long throw into the box Kelly had to punch and Suddaby cleared. As Bridlington broke down the right Palmer was fouled again but Ossett managed to defend the free kick. Burdick and Palmer combined on the left and this saw Palmer fouled again, this time earning a caution for Rob Nugent. Again Ossett defended the set piece. As Bridlington attacked down the right, this time Andy Thompson was fouled and former Bridlington player Jason Harris was cautioned. Ossett pressed their right flank and Price but the ball in but it evaded everyone. Another Bridlington free kick gained a corner and Ossett managed to clear at the second attempt. Some neat play from Bridlington saw the ball come to Burdick and his turn and first time shot was straight at Clark in the Ossett goal. On 38 minutes a delightful chip into the box by Thacker found Palmer but Clark managed to parry his shot for a corner. After the first clearance the ball came back in and Steve Heath tried an overhead kick that went just over the bar. Another chance came from a free kick after another foul on Palmer. Thacker lifted the ball in and Palmer just failed to divert the ball past the keeper. Inside the last five minutes of the half Ossett were awarded a free kick on the left of the box but the kick was straight at Kelly. Ossett almost got a chance when a rebound was latched onto by Davidson but Heath got back to defend well. A good break from Bridlington saw Burdick get through and cross to Taylor but Taylor hit his shot over the bar. HT 1 – 0

A scrappy openeing to the second half saw a free kick to Ossett. The ball came into the home box, was only half cleared and as it came in again Bridlington keeper Kelly failed to collect and James Walshaw turned and fired home to level for the visitors on 49 mins. Frequent stoppages disrupted the game along with an injury to Bridlington keeper Kelly who had to be substituted just after the hour mark. Lee Harper took over between the sticks. A long ball from Ossett saw Harper come out of the area to head clear. The ball fell kindly to Ossett and Daniel Davidson benefited to slot home and give the visitors the lead on 67 mins. Almost from the restart Ossett gained possession and the ball came through to Davidson again and he once more found the net to give Ossett a 3 – 1 lead on 69 mins. Bridlington looked to have benefited from a back pass but as Bridlington’s Andy Taylor went to collect the ball from the keeper an altercation ensued and Taylor was shown the red card on 72 mins. When the free kick was taken Martin Thacker lifted the ball skilfully into the net to pull one back for Bridlington on 73 mins. On 75 minutes Wayne Lewis was scythed down by Ossetts Briggs and received just a caution. Ossett turned up the pressure against the ten men as Bridlington defended resolutely. The home side tried to get forward and Palmer and Burdick found themselves with too many defenders to beat. The game was then halted with three minutes remaining to allow an ambulance into the ground to attend Gavin Kelly who was taken to hospital in a neck brace. When play restarted with a free kick to Ossett the ball was flighted in and the unmarked Rodney Rowe headed the ball under Harper to make it 4 – 2 to the visitors. With the 90 minutes up it was anyones guess as to remaining time due to the long stoppages but there was no further scoring.
