Referee: C.Reeves – Tickton

Belper got revenge for the previous league game and inflicted a rare home defeat on Bridlington Town who were missing nine of their regular first team squad through injuries and suspension for this game.

After an even start Belper latched onto a loose ball in the middle and Alex Callery nipped through to feed Sean Gummer who curled the ball home from inside the box on 6 minutes. Belper came close again just two minutes later but the offside flag was raised. Bridlington pressed and created a chance for Thompson to shoot but the referee judged he had handled and halted the home sides attack. Belper kept looking to slot the ball through to Gummer but he was frequently caught offside. Bridlington attacked down the right with Burdick. He fed Taylor who laid on for Thacker but Thacker fired over on 15 mins. On 20 mins Gummer beat Suddaby on the right and crossed to the back post where Alex Callery sidefooted home to give the visitors a 2 – 0 lead. Belper were awarded a free kick for a push 25 yards out. Craig Wardale made a full stretch save to tip round from Mark Barnard’s kick on 26 mins. A corner for Bridlington on the half hour was sliced clear for a second corner but the home side failed to test Ingham in the Belper goal. A Bridlington pressed again Ingram’s cross hit Belper defender Jones in the face and went for a corner, but again the home side failed to make a telling effort. An awkward bounce deceived Heath and Gummer nipped through but Wardale was well out to save bravely and Heath cleared. Dave Ingram lifted the ball forward, Craig Burdick beat the offside trap and forced a weak punch from Ingham. The ball fell to Phil Harrison and he lobbed the ball home from well outside the box to put Bridlington back in the game on 37 mins. The home side pressed again, gained a free kick and put a good ball in but Belper managed to clear. More pressure and a Craig Burdick shot flashed just wide of the post. In stoppage time at the end of the first half Harrison was felled on the right edge of the Belper box but the visitors cleared as the referee blew.

Early pressure from Bridlington in the second half saw Harrison fouled by Crookes just outside the box. Thacker put a great ball in from the kick but no-one could get on the end of it. Town attacked again and Harrison went down in the box but no penalty was given as he fired over whilst laid on the ground. Harrison drew another free kick, this time on the left. He was on the end of Thackers kick but Belper half cleared. As the ball came back in again Harrison again got a glancing header but the ball went wide. As the hour approached Thompson switched play and Baldwin lifted in from the left to Craig Burdick who volleyed over from six yards. After a brief break from Belper Bridlington attacked and gained a corner down the left, but Ingham held. Good work down the right earned Bridlington a corner with 15 minutes remaining but they couldn’t capitalise.Belper substitute Evans had a chance from a Gummer cross but fired over on 80 mins. On 83 minutes the ball fell to Dave Ingram but his shot was straight at the Belper keeper. With five minutes remaining a cross field ball for Belper found the unmarked Andy Evans and he tucked the ball past Wardale to make it 3 – 1 to the visitors.
