Unibond Division One

Bishop Auckland 3(2)(Irvine (pen)23, Hope 34, Maddison 84)

Bridlington Town 2(0)(Richards 58, Taylor 73)

Att: 144

Referee: Tony Smith

Once more Bridlington returned home empty handed after a late winner from their opponents. A poor first half by recent standards saw Town two goals behind at half time, but an excellent fightback in the second haf saw them draw level with just over a quarter hour left. It all came undone though when Bishop's grabbed a winner six minutes from time.

Bridlington had a poor first half as Bishop Auckland controlled their play and kept the visitors pegged back though Bridlington had a good chance on 20 mins from a free kick but Bishop's managed to scrable the ball away. As they hit a long ball up field Andy Taylor collected and looked to lay the ball back to Nick Baxter, making his debut in goal. Taylor scuffed his pass and David Bayles intercepted to head for the penalty area. He tried to round Baxter but was judged to have been brought down and a penalty awarded. Irvine slotted home to open the scoring. Bolstered by their good fortune, Bishop's pressed constantly and added a second goal ten minutes later. With the third of successive corners a deep ball found Shaun Hope at the back post and he nodded in to increase the home sides lead. Bridlington managed to gain soome ground in the last five minutes of the half but only came close when Underwoods shot went over.

After some stern half time words from the manager, Bridlington brought on Shaun Baker to firm up the midfield. Pressuring from the kick off Town looked a different side and eventually pulled a goal back as the hour approached. A half clearance from a corner fell to Lee Harper. His volley was parried by Caffry but Jamie Richards was quickest to react to slam the ball home. More Bridlington pressure followed and they grabbed the equaliser on 73 mins. A long throw from Harper was flicked on by Richards. Taylor nipped in to score with a narrow left foot shot that in some way made amends for his first half error. Bridlington were now bossing the game but with just over five minutes left Bishop's broke forwards and won a disputed corner. Town failed to properly clear and in the scramble Maddison found room to fire past Baxter for the winner.
