Bridlington Town               2(1)(Thacker 1, Palmer 90)

Att: 246

Referee: S.Milner – Castleford

A dramatic finish saw the honours shared in this East Riding derby. The visitors had taken the lead inside forty seconds through Martin Thacker but North Ferriby levelled through Gary Bradshaw just before the half hour. Bradshaw thought he had won the game for Ferriby with his second on 89 minutes but Bridlington substitute Paul Palmer grabbed an equaliser in stoppage time.

Bridlington pressured from the kick off and when the ball came in from the right it was only half cleared and Thacker thundered the ball home from the edge of the box to give Bridlington an early lead. The home side came close to levelling after the quarter hour but Bridlington keeper Gavin Kelly produced an outstanding block from Craig Elliot’s shot. North Ferriby levelled following a slip by Bridlington defender Steve Robiinson. Gary Bradshaw picked up the loose ball and reached the penalty area to slot home past Kelly on 28 mins. Chris Gowen had the opportunity to put the home side infron but when one on one with Kelly he pulled his shot wide. Bridlington attacked and were awarded  a free kick from which Thacker hit the post. Bridlington then saw the referee change his mind. Paul Farley had evaded one challenge and the referee played advantage, the Farley was felled and the referee pointed to the penalty spot, before consulting his assistant and changing his decision to a free kick on the edge of the box. The woodwork came to Ferriby’s aid again before the home keeper Sharpe collected.

Both sides were looking to take the lead in the second half, Thacker and Shaun Baker both going clsor for Town whilst at the other end Sherlock, Bradshaw and Elliot were all looking dangerous apart from their target finding. Inside the last five minutes Craig Burdick tore through for Bridlington but was felled by Paul Foot who earned a booking for his challenge. Sharpe in Ferriby’s goal gathered the free kick and launched the ball upfield. Sherlock broke through and fed the ball in past Kelly to where Bradshaw fired home to give the home side a late lead with just a minute remaining.  Into stoppage time and Bridlington employed the same one dimensional tactics as their hosts with a long ball forward from the keeper and Paul Palmer latched on to hit the ball home to give the visitors a point with almost the last kick of the game.
