ERCFA Senior Cup R2

North Ferriby                           1(0)(Elliot 51)

Bridlington Town               2(0)(Heath 90, Farley golden goal 17 second of extra time)

Att: 179

Referee: M.Elliot

There will be a different name on the trophy than for the past seven seasons as Bridlington Town left it late to put out the holders. The home side had taken the lead early in the second half but Bridlington grabbed a late equaliser with virtually the last kick of stoppage time, before Paul Farley netted the Golden Goal just 17 seconds into extra time.

Dave Ingram and Paul Farley had shown first for the visitors before Ferriby attacked back and forced keeper Wardale to punch clear. Martin Thacker linked with Paul Palmer to feed Farley but his cross was held by Ferriby keeper Sharpe. Gary Bradshaw latched onto a ball over the top for Ferriby and Town breathed with relief as he pulled his shot wide. Mid way through the half Paul Foot was very late in a challenge on Phil Harrison but he escaped with just a talking to by the referee. With little to choose between the sides, Bridlington made a substitution, with Kevin Smith replacing Paul Palmer who had taken a knock, but he didn’t have much chance to impact before the half time whistle went.

Ferriby took the lead early in the second half. Joel Hartley broke down the right and got in his cross to where Craig Elliot found space to fire past Wardale. Town had much of the possession for the remainder but they couldn’t get a good shot and Sharpe was equal to everything. With the visitors pushing up they survived  with just ninie minutes left Wardale had to tip a good shot onto the bar. With three minutes of added time notified it seemed all over for Bridlington but a ball forward saw Harrison fouled five yards over  the half way line. Martin Thacker lifted the ball in and Steve Heath got up to head home with seconds left. Ferriby hardly had time to restart before the whistle went. FT 1 – 1

Bridlington kicked off the extra time and immediately found space to feed the ball through to Paul Farley. Farley found space to beat his marker and fired home past Sharpe with just seventeen seconds of the extra time gone to put Bridlington through to the next round.
