Saturday 10th September
Bridlington Town 2-2 Gresley Rovers
Att 128
Scorers Brid. Paul Palmer (29) Mark Swales (88)
Gresley Paul Edwards (21) Gary White (37)
A late Mark Swales goal earned Bridlington Town a point in this UniBond League
Division One match.
Town started well enough with Wayne Lewis forcing a save from Pemberton but
it was the visitors that were to take lead. A cross from the right held in
the breeze, Nick Baxter failed to gather, and Paul Edwards pounced to force
the ball over the line on 21 minutes.
Brid battled back and went close with Seb Towse volleying over a Paul Wilson
cross on 28 minutes. A minute later Brid were level. Chris Hyam did well down
the right then found Mark Swales. Swales' cross was only half cleared and
Paul Palmer took advantage to thunder a shot past Pemberton to make it 1-1.
Steve Heath then went close with a flick header from a Martin Thacker free
kick and Ben Sherwood rifled a shot across the face of goal.
Despite Brids pressure it was Gresley that took the lead again. A Gary White
corner from the right somehow eluded Baxter and sneaked in under the bar to
make it 1-2.
In the second half Brid twice came close to equalising with a shot from Wayne
Lewis that curled just wide while Martin Thacker forced Pemberton to save
with a 20 yard free kick. At the other end Gresley Rovers missed a golden
chance on 74 minutes when Gray sliced wide when in space.
Town grabbed the equaliser in the 88th minute when Mark Swales was given too
much room and he struck a low left foot drive into the bottom corner to earn
Brid a point.
