Prescot Cables 1(0)(Torpey 48)
Bridlington Town 1(1)(Palmer 45)
Att:203
Referee: W.D.Smallwood (Northwich)
Honours were shared in this first meeting between last years two promoted teams. The visitors grabbed the lead on the stroke of half time only for the home side to level early in the second half. An entertaining game with a fair result overall.
After a pacey start from Bridlington, the first chance fell to Cooper for the home side but the visitors keeper Gavin Kelly was out quickly to save with his feet. Bridlington pushed forward and from a Martin Thacker free kick Paul Palmer saw a header go just wide of the post. Stuart Baldwin then got down the left for Bridlington and crossed but Phil Harrison just couldn't reach the ball. PRescot then had a spell of pressure with a through ball deceiving Suddaby. Torpey collected and raced through only to fire his shot into the side netting. The visitors then looked to control possession with Dave Ingram seeing a shot go wide and Baldwin firing just over the bar on the half hour. Torpey again benefited from a long through ball for the home side but this time Gavin Kelly saved well with his legs. Bridlington turned up the pace and it paid off on the stroke of half time. Harrison collected in the midfield and slotted the ball through for Paul Palmer who fired home from the narrowest of angles with his left foot.
Bridlington thought they had added to their lead early in the second half. A deep cross into the box saw Prescot keeper Thorp come out and fall over one of his defenders as Harrison fired the ball into the net but the referee blew for a foul. Prescot launched the ball forward, Torpey collected and cut into the box to hit a left foot shot past Kelly to level matters. Both sides were committed to attacking footbal making it an entertaining game for those watching but clear cut chances were at a premium and the points were shared.
