Town were without Lee Harper, Kev Smith and Paul Palmer, all who had picked up injuries in training. The home side showed first, Harris, turning well to cross but no-one could meet the ball in the box. Frickley were soon into their stride as both teams looked for an opening. After nine mins Burdick collected a Kelly clearance in midfield, laid the ball left to Farley who crossed. Harris headed just wide of the Frickley post. Thompson then worked the ball across to Farley. He fed Drayton who flicked a header straight at Samways. Frickley attacked, O’Brian switching play across to Nesa but the home defence cleared. Harris was felled for a free kick on the corner of the penalty area. Thacker hit the ball wide. A mis hit ball gave Frickley possession but the through ball saw the Frickley striker Bernard offside. Frickley pressed again from a throw and gained a central free kick 25 yards out. Nesa’s curled kick forced Kelly to tip round for a corner on 22mins. Frickley pressed further, Bernard crossing from the left and Kelly saved on the line to spare Robinson’s blushes as the ball spun off him goal bound on 26 mins. Kelly cleared long and under pressure from Drayton, Frickley conceded a corner. Burdick’s header from this went over. Frickley attacked again, O’Brian feeding Bernard but again Kelly saved. The home side kept looking for the break but the offside flag stopped them frequently. With five minutes of the half remaining Town earned a corner but lack of challenge let Samways gather cleanly. As the half came to a close neat footwork from Jason Harris saw him slot the ball into the box for Paul Farley. Farley picked his spot to score under the diving Samways to give the home side the lead.

HT 1 – 0

Just two minutes into the second half Town should have increased their lead from a free kick but Burdick headed well over. As in the first half, after early pressure from the home side the visitors came more into the game.  Bridlington cleared from a Frickley free kick and broke forward in a move that switched from side to side twice before Frickley cleared. As Burdick returned play he was blocked. From the free kick Burdick saw his header beat Samways but rebound off the post on the hour mark. Frickley broke and had two players up but Kelly raced out of his area to block and Thacker got back to clear. On 65 mins Kamara appeared to be felled in the box and a penalty was awarded to Frickley. Morris fired wide from the spot. Frickley pressured further but Town broke and Burdick raced forward but was tripped as he entered the penalty area. A penalty was awarded for the home side but Samways saved Thacker’s spot kick on 68 mins. Both sides introduced substitutes and Frickley went close but the ball hit the side netting. Inside the last ten minutes a scramble in the Frickley box almost let Burdick in but the ball wouldn’t drop for him. Frickley pressed for an equaliser, Taylor having to clear for a corner. In the last minute Ingram played Burdick through but he fired wide whilst stretching. As Town attacked again Burdick was tripped 25 yards out for a free kick. Burdick fired through the wall but Samways gathered. In stoppage time Baldwin almost got through for the home side but the Frickley defender took the ball off his toe end as he shot. From the throw Baldwin crossed to the far post and Danny Drayton headed home to make it 2 - 0
