Unibond Division One

Lincoln United            2(1)(George 31, McDaid 53)

Bridlington Town   0(0)

Att: 110

Referee: M.Naylor

Bridlington came home empty handed again but this was not a patch on Saturdays performance. Chances were at a premium for both sides but it was Lincoln who capitalised with two headers from corners. Bridlington started well with a long ball finding Burdick but his shot was straight at Conroy. Lincoln broke forward and a high bounce deceived Heath. Taylor nipped in to lay the ball back to Hill but his clearance was scuffed to Lincoln striker Bull but fortunately for Bridlington he fired wide. Bridlington pressed, creating another chance for Burdick but once more Conroy was in the right place to save. Just after the half hour the home side took the lead. A long throw was cleared for a corner by the Bridlington defence but from this corner Danny George found space in the middle of the box and powered home a header to open the scoring. This lifted Lincoln who had greater possession but couldn’t penetrate the visiting defence. HT 1 – 0

End to end football opened the second half and there was a vociferous appeal for a penalty when one of the Lincoln players appeared to handle in the box but the referee played on. Lincoln attacked and gained a corner. This time the ball came over to the back post where McDaid headed home to increase the home sides lead. Bridlington introduced Baldwin and Drayton to replace Ingram and Harrison as they looked to get back into the game but Baldwin had to be replaced by Lewis after just ten minutes following a pulled muscle. With a quarter hour remaining Town created another chance. Thacker picked out Thompson who headed in for Burdick but Conroy once more came to Lincoln’s aid. Lincoln managed to play out the rest of the time and make it a frustrating time for Bridlington.
