\Bamber Bridge 2(1)(Wane 37, Shepherd 58)
Bridlington Town 0(0)
Referee: Carl Evans
Att: 168
Bridlington Town once more found life hard across the Pennines and came away empty handed. A goal in each half gave the home side the victory after early promise never materialised.
Bridlington took the game to their host from the off, Danny Drayton playing Andy Thompson in for the overlap before winning a corner. Soon after, more pressure from the visitors saw Paul Palmer lay the ball back to Shaun Baker who saw his powerful shot parried by Sharrock. Danny Drayton headed over from the follow up. Bridlington thought they should have had a penalty just a minute later when Drayton had his heels clipped but the referee judged that Drayton had dived and showed him a yellow. Still Town pressed, Palmer showing trickery to force Sharrock to save. The home side began to get into the game and pushed forward with Jimmy King creating down the left but Squires fired wide from the cross. On the half hour Town attacked again and the ball spun free to Ingram. His well struck shot was blocked by the legs of Sharrock. The Bridge hit a long ball forward and Mark Wane evaded his marker to gather and lobbed the advancing Town keeper Wardale to give the home side the lead on 37 mins.
Town were forced into an early change when Robinson was replaced by Stuart Baldwin and his presence soon earned Town a corner and then a second soon followed but no reward was gained. Another long ball from Bamber Bridge was halted but a free kick was awarded near the half way line. The ball was swung in, an awkward bounce seemed to have evaded all but Stuart Shepherd had read the flight well and nipped in at the back post to hit the home sides second goal on 58 mins. Bridlington introduced their other two substitutes but struggled to penetrate the home defence. Bamber were more industrious and found space down the wings on several occasion but couldn’t get any more joy. Town’s only real chance of note in the second half came with ten minutes remaining when a flick on gave Paul Palmer a chance but his shot was strait at Sharrock.
