Rossendale Utd 3(1)(Norton 43, Hindle 85, Barker 86)

Bridlington Town 1(0)(Burdick 50)

Att: 82

Referee: P.Graham

The Bridlington Town players, management and supporters that were at Rossendale on Tuesday night woke up Wednesday morning still wondering how they managed to come away with nothing from the other side of the Pennines.

Bridlington had started well enough, in fact playing some of their best and scintillating football of recent weeks. Slick moves tore holes in the Rossendale defence that could have seen Town three up in the first quarter hour. After just four minutes Shaun Bakers shot was parried by the Rossendale keeper, Craig Burdick followed up and attempted to "dink" the ball over the keeper but failed, when a power shot would probably have done the job.On 11 minutes Martin Thacker's ball in was met with a sweet header by Lee Harper only for the woodwork to deny Bridlington. Then just after the quarter hour Andy Thompson broke down the right and crossed to the unmarked Phil Harrison but he blazed over when unmarked with only the keeper to beat. Town were to rue these misses as Rossendale finally began to find their feet and took the lead two minutes before half time. Clark got down the right and despites Steve Robinson blocking his first attempt to cross Clark regathered and got the ball into the area where Norton side footed home.

Bridlington set about their task early in the second half and saw Craig Burdick fire over. Burdick levelled for the visitors on 50 mins when Lee Harper played a long ball to Ingram, he cut the ball in to Harrison and Harrison squared to Burdick to ram the leveller home. Bridlington continued to pressure but squandered further chances through, Harrison, Richards and Baker but fell to the sucker punch after failing to fully clear the ball from defence and Hindle nipped in to find a gap and put the home side in front again. Shell shocked Town soon lost possession from the restart and Rossendale tore forwards and got a cross in from the left and Barker netted to make it 3 - 1 to the home side on 86 mins.
