Bridlington
hosted a youthful Wednesday side in this friendly. Three first half goals from
the home side gave them the chance to experiment in the second half.
Kevin Smith tested Wednesday keeper Ogden with a well struck shot in the first minute. At the other end Callaghan was played through but could only head weakly at Kelly. Wednesday had a spell of pressure before Town worked up field. Smith flicked on for Palmer but his shot was blocked. Town began to make inroads and won a corner on 13 mins. A second corner resulted form a scramble and Burdick curled a shot but Ogden saved. A free kick from Thacker nearly found Harper but Wednesday cleared. Smith then laid the ball into the path of Burdick. He tried to place the ball but fired just wide. Town continued to attack with Burdick down the right. He crossed and Jason Harris netted with a close range header to give Town the lead on 23 minutes. 1 – 0. Town went close again five minutes later. A Burdick cross missing all in the box as Smith charged in. Burdick was again causing problems for the visiting defence as the Bridlington side had much the better of the possession. A corner from Thacker was met with a header by Lee Harper to increase Town’s lead in the 34th minute. 2 – 0. Sheffield then attacked but Kelly gathered from a corner easily and set Town on attack. From a Thacker free kick Harper flicked on and Smith volleyed just over the bar. After a brief foray forward by Wednesday, a long clearance found Smith and he raced on to beat Ogden from inside the box to make it 3 – 0 on 42 mins.

After
a couple of early substitutions Town pressed forward again and four different
players had shots blocked on the line. The pace slowed a little as both sides
made further substitutions. Wednesday were awarded a free kick outside Towns’
box but Wilson hit the kick straight at Kelly. Neither side could establish any
dominance as the game drifted into the last twenty minutes. Thompson conceded a
foul giving Wednesday a free kick 20 yards out. Once again the kick was straight
at the home keeper. Inside the last ten minutes Wednesday gained a free kick
then a corner but Town cleared easily. Town upped the pace slightly, Baldwin
putting in a good cross from the left, and Ingram working well in the middle as
the game reached the last five minutes, but no further action. FT 3 - 0
